So, I've owned 2 SeaDoo 21 footers and now a Scarab 215 that I have yet to get out on the water. Over the years the bane of my existence has been either small chunks of wood that got sucked up or worse yet the dreaded rope suck in. It seems to me a simple metal mesh grate would solve the problem completely, but I assume there is some reason they don't make such. The lake I'm on is 100% weed free so clogging from weeds would never be an issue. Also, the boat will only be on freshwater so saltwater corrosion isn't an issue either. Question:

Has anyone here put on a piece of metal mesh to prevent wood chips or a rope being sucked into the intake?

Mesh would cause air bubbles to form = cavitation. The pump would probably lose tons of pressure.

I like jet boats, but sadly it may be that for some waterways, they aren't ideal. Pros and cons. Ropes can obviously be avoided assuming you're careful, but if you have things like wood floating around regularly, that's a pretty hard thing to avoid if it's all over the place.
