I see most who are doing sub boxes either sealed or ported are putting them under the Starboard quarter seating (behind the captains chair). My question is why are most folks putting the subs on the starboard side? My thought was the battery compartment on the port side should be a dry space and not where I am putting wet gear. So putting Subs, amps, etc.. in seems like a better location?

Are there placement advantages to the starboard side maybe?

Thanks,

For me the box fit better in that compartment due to size and shape. It was also a better place based on what I actually store in there. Stern anchor, ropes and misc smaller items. The port side is full of noodles, table legs and cushions while trailering. Amps are also mounted under helm so shorter run for wires as well.

Mine is under the port side, but seems having it inside any compartment muffles the sound and deadens the punch. I’m wondering if anyone has put a free air sub cut into the passenger side under the glove box? How were their results vs enclosed under seat or inside compartment?

@white2kstang , what box is that? Looks like it fits perfectly.

@Farny , do you have vent holes on the port side and it still sounds muffled?

I've been researching placement for a year or two now (budget keeps getting blown on other fun mods), and I'm 99% certain I'm going to put an IB 10" in the wall near the drivers feet on the starboard side. Should be mostly out of the way of damage, and there is enough space there to flush mount the sub without touching the outer hull wall.

Just a thought.

I have an enclosed powered sub setting in the storage compartment- so when I close the seat it really deadens the punch from the sub.

I did exactly what you suggested. Mine is on the port side aft, and is a powered sub.

It's a replica of the JL power wedge box that they put the JL 10TW3-D4 in. Glassed and vinyl covered to protect the box some from the water.

Have you seen or heard this in person? I like this option as little kids and feet make me nervous someone would mess with or ruin the actual speaker sticking out. I like the idea of keep it enclosed in storage area.
I have not but hoping someone can confirm this works well. It logically makes sense though.

Not currently. I do leave the helm storage doors open or that seat off a lot when floating but I have been contemplating a vent. I'd do the 12 if I did it again. It is slightly muffled, but still hits well.

what... once you drill the first hole you'll be fine.... :winkingthumbsup"

then there is no escape from sawsall or the hole saw...

I cut my whole bench seat out... it was just in the wrong place... I did put it back in in a different place.

I have 6x 6.5 kicker's now and I find the bottom end a little lacking...
I too am considering a sub install... i have room on the port side freeboard... Polly use a 10" free air unit... looking at bridging amps or dual voice coil... I just want to keep it up off the deck as much as possible.. the starboard side has a boatload of cables and wiring in there... attachment (23).jpegattachment - 2021-10-24T192414.311.jpgattachment - 2021-11-03T072229.201.jpg

I've cut enough so far. Transom remote, switch panel and two new 6.5 speakers have gone in. I'm going to see where I'm at further into the season after a retune of settings and some more time with the larger amp.
