AR 195 Windshield Strut Adjustment

Anyone know how to get the bottom mount reinserted back into the strut tube? Mine pulled out at the bottom, but not the top. I see the screw that spreads out the piece but I can't figure out how to disassemble the plastic pieces. The part I am trying to separate to get at that screw to the internal piece is circled.
