OK, with work & military duty AND purchase/planning for the upcoming Bimini trip. I'm at a crossroads about fishing.

My son (13) and I want to fish (rod/reel/bait/techniques/filleting...etc

I am willing to meet with someone(s) in Fort Lauderdale on July 4th, go to Walmart and pick up a proper rod(s) and tackle needed.

Or, if someone has extra...be willing to pitch in for gas or something and go fishing on their boat and learn. What I don't want is to be a burden or impose on someone else's vacation.

I have some time to read on the internet and view some videos, but I think myself and more so my son would really get a kick out of the actual action of doing it. Plus, hopefully cooking some fish on my boat grill.

Which brings me to the next question. What kind of cooking extra's should I bring to cook fish on boat (Aluminum foil, non-stick spray..etc)...lemon juice, spices?

Hope I'm getting my true intentions across in this format and can get some resolutions.

Thanks all,

@ArmyChief We are not big time fishermen but dropped a line last year and will do so again this year. More than happy to show you what we know. With not a lot of effort, we tore them up just dropping a line. Did not go prepared to cook the fish but will this year.

We went to WalMart and bought cheapie rod/spinning reel combos with 15 lb test. I think I paid about $20 each. Did exactly what we needed without a hitch. I will admit to having nicer stuff at home for the lake but did not want to drop even more change with my Bimini prep budget spending from last year. Make sure you have some decent weight and decent sized hooks. That's about it there...

We fished with squid. Fished the reefs at off the bottom at the 100 ft line.

We'll talk more over a beer in Lauderdale. I am a keep it simple type of guy. It gets you there with not as much complication.

We will get on some fish though for your son. That;s what it is all about!!!
