Boating fail thread

I forgot one other fail I did a while ago, accidentally left the swim ladder down while driving around at wot. Amazingly everything was fine though. Noticed it was down when got back to shore.

I do that about 5-6 times a year. That's not a fail. Doesn't hurt anything, you just end up looking like it's your first day with your new boat.

Same thing with leaving a bumper out and cruising around.

Once forgot that I had put two anchors out when swimming in middle of the lake because of a pretty good cross wind. Got ready to go and pulled one anchor up. "Why is this boat pulling to the right so hard?" Lucky no damage to anything except my ego.

Just because you do fail every other month ; it does not make it not a fail

...piling on!!!!! Port Throttle was “nugged” off the indent and engine would not turn over and $100 Marina tow later... I checked everything except I did not cycle the throttles. lesson learned

A damaged ego can be fixed easily with a couple of beers.

Not to be Captain Obvious here as I've made my share of blunders. In my preflight check in the driveway I always cycle my throttles full forward to full reverse three times (ultimately leaving them in neutral), then the steering wheel goes lock to lock three times before I fire up each engine for 10 seconds. I do this to make sure the cables and mechanicals are free and clear and that both engines start and rev. You really want to find your problems in the driveway.

Honestly, I don’t think we’ve remembered to put the ladder up once, went swimming again tonight, got half way back and saw the water kicking up cuz we left it down....good thing they don’t break when left down.

I’ve lost anchors, drain plug not in, etc. but today was a first to drive off with the jack wheel still down. Didn’t take long to figure it out. About ten yards, but it was a stupid mistake nonetheless.

The noise from a tongue jack wheel still down at 35 ish is certainly unique. Have never done it with a boat. Made it halfway to the dump with my utility trailer though going "WTF is that noise". ?‍

Yep! I know that feeling now. Mine was in gravel so I was saying WHY TF is thing so hard to move?

Well just had a fail at the ramp. Wife coming in to trailer. I lost my boat flip flops due to water. So I had another pair on that I did not get wet. I took them off and as shes coming in my bare foot slips on the algae. I fail forward. Got up quick to catch the boat. Pride hurt, a little kid ask of I'm alright, I said yes and thanks for asking. Why said take a gummy , so I am obliging.

Tried to launch in a new lake. Ramp not as steep as my usual lake. Boat wouldn't come off the trailer. Kept pushing the bow. No go.

Yep, boat buckles still attached.

Yep, boat buckles still attached.

Yep! Been there. That’s one of the reasons I start my pre-launch check from the back and work my way to the front now. I start with the straps, then the plug, etc..

@steve0617 I got the same happing today. We had some new friends and they districted me, so I only took off one of the buckles. Thanks God our Ramon is like 40 feet wide and not other boats or cars around us.
