I’m the opposite you @zipper. I live in Montreal but boat on a small lake near Lake Placid, 13 miles from Malone which you probably know but most people won’t.I am 30 miles South of the border, but Verizon keeps thinking I crossed the border. We get these frequently on our property. Businesses on the Lake really missed the Canadian boaters' dollars coming down the Richelieu River from Montreal in 2020. Hope to see them back, although the best anchorages were easier pickings this year.

@Bohdiez ..... lived on the Rideau River at Manotick for 25 years. Still boat there. Now live on the water at Brockville on the St. Lawrence - look right across the river to Morristown N.Y. Often boat or drive to the U.S. Have a boat slip in Brockville but rent it out. Keep our SX195 wet slipped in Gananoque because Gan is right in the "heart" of the thousand islands. Boat the St. Lawrence, Rideau River and various lakes up to the Muskoka's. On a normal day's boating on the St. Lawrence we cross back and forth across the CDN/US Border. Super boating with lots of Islands. Have run from Gananoque up to Belleville and from Brockville to Cornwall. Did the same with our big cruisers but it's more fun on the SX195 and faaar less fuel.....and yes we have to watch the roaming charges on our cell phones. Great place to boat but I'm still jealous of members in the Southern U.S.A. who can boat year round and the Florida keys in particular. Also stayed in Estero Beach a few years back and boated to Captiva Island etc.Just wondering where everyone from and any big plans in your areas?
@Slant555 ..... great way to get into the boating scene - a 255XE is a very nice boat! Lived in Calgary many, many years ago. My dad was base commander Calgary. Nice skiing nearby and the chinooks were very interesting. Was walking along with a friend with our rifles over our shoulders wearing our cowboy hats and boots, on the way the way to shoot gophers at a nearby farm. A Calgary Police cruiser stopped us and the Officer said, Guns aren't loaded, right? We replied, Shells in our pockets. Off they drove. Try that today ..... even in Texas.Expat from Calgary Alberta. Been down in Texas the last 14yrs. Just getting into the boating scene.
@Miitch ..... was like Texas. Back "in the day" in Calgary as teenagers we even got stopped with open beers in our cars and were told not to drink too many. Try that today lol. Used to be able to do that in Texas at one time too. I remember an American friend saying the drive from his house to his cousin's was a six-pack drive.@Canuckjetboater This confirms the stereotype myth that Alberta is just Texas with snow and hockey.
Yup adjusting to life in Texas from Calgary was not too difficult. Salt of the earth people with similar ranching and oil and gas backgrounds. I certainly miss the mountains though!@Miitch ..... was like Texas. Back "in the day" in Calgary as teenagers we even got stopped with open beers in our cars and were told not to drink too many.
