We launch in waukegan, then boat the shoreline to chicago. Usually about 1 to 2 hour ride.

We usually anchor toward the north end of the show. the jets do there u-turns above us over the water. even get some mild jet wash from the planes a few times.

Currently trying to adjust our schedule to attend, don't know which day yet.

Also they always do a practice on Friday, almost identical show, with smaller crowds.

Hey @Speedling, What time do you usually try to get on the water for this. If I can talk the wife into it we might make the trip up.

Show starts at 10 so you want to hit the water by 9ish. I always hope for earlier but it doesn't usually happen, lol
From Hammond marina (can't miss it, horseshoe casino IN the marina) to Navy Pier is a little drive up the coast but worth it for me as it puts me outside the Chicago traffic both boat and car!

Closer to the date i will advise as to water conditions as well.

Looks like we're in, assuming the weather doesn't take a turn for the worst. I'll get with you next week @Speedling. I'd like to meet up with you when you leave so I can follow. I know where the casino is but it would just be nice to hang together. We'll be coming straight up 41.

That would be awesome!
Last year we got right up front but got really bounced around. My dad got sea sick and puked the whole time. My mom has vertigo and i had to save her from drowning. The police boats up front made the worst waves.

This year i am gonna stay further back and my parents aren't invited. Lol!

What is a good place to put in for the airshow, coming from the west? A few years back I know we did a run that was about an hour on some rivers and through a few locks that eventually spilled out in Lake Michigan. I am not sure where we launched but will ask a friend. That was a pretty long ride so im hoping there is something accessible a bit closer but completely avoiding the chaos of Chicago.

I don't boat north of that really so don't know

Boss is telling me that unless it's absolutely impossible i will be working the 20th. I may end up going the 21st but i need to square away church stuff. Responsibilities....

Well, unfortunately I'm going to have to back out. We unfortunately had a death in the family and the services are Saturday. I would like to go Sunday, but that just doesn't work out with my work schedule. One day I'll make it up there....one day!

You need to just basically tell me what weekend works for you and we'll go hang out on Portage

You're right. That is exactly what I'm going to have to do. I really want to come up there and hang out but the world seems to be keeping me from it. lol! Hopefully we can get together sometime before the seasons over.

I will be launching from Worth at approximately 9am on Sunday the 21st. If anyone is going to be out there for the air show we should meet up! I have only used my new (to me) 2013 sx240 once so far and am looking forward to getting some hours on it.

We should be there Sunday! Watching the weather yet. Forcast isn't that far for wave heights.

So far it looks decent. Not great but decent

I'm a little concerned about the wind but we are going to attempt it!

By Friday night I will know what the forecast for the waves and wind will be for Sunday. I will certainly post it up as soon as I see it. Right now it looks like 10 to 15 miles per hour winds coming straight out of the West. Out of the West will certainly help us but 10 to 15 is certainly nothing to laugh about

Hey I'm back from my military training and just jumping in on this conversation. Let me know the plan, I'm down for some boating and planes!

@Speedling sounds good. Hopefully the wind doesn't pick up too badly.

Have any of you been to the air and water show before? How congested is the lake with boats? How close to the shore do you usually set anchor, and any idea on depth at that point? Just trying to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.

We are not gonna make to the air and water show this weekend. fyi
