Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
I keep seeing people who need GPS buy after market units when they have it on their Connext system. I have it but don't really use it. Is it really that bad? Could it work off shore too?
I just got my new boat so I don't have a ton of experience with it yet. I also haven't done the download update on the sim card. But no depths which is disappointing. But it does have buoys and marks the channels. It's not bad if you're familiar with the water you're boating on.
It forgets your breadcrumb trail when you turn the key off. So, boat to a restaurant for evening meal... bring up your trail for the ride home in the dark... doh! Trail is gone. Extremely frustrating. ?

I bring it up every now and then for fun, as said above, the ability to save a trip would be nice. North up thing isn’t a big deal to me, just kind of annoying they couldn’t add a option, cars have had it for years. I do all my boating with the sun up but if I were out at night I would use it a lot more. We mainly boat in a sound, which is basically a river, the center is dredged deep for big boats and barges, and is marked, but the dredged area is very narrow, rest of the sound is 1-2 miles across in some places and has a lot of sand bars/real shallow areas. It’s fun to explore in the day, and the water is really clear so you can see ahead where it’s real shallow to avoid. I would not want to stray from the marked area at night, and if there was no moon out I could see missing a marker and drifting off course.
So, short answer, no I don’t really use it, but it’s nice to have.
