Dang comm error - comes and goes! (speedo or transducer?)

My boat recently had the tach replaced (2019). The speedo moved at startup and during the test. No movement though otherwise.

I bought the transducer after replacing the battery, cables, installing a battery maintainer(even though I didn’t measure a drop in over a month)
cleaned every electrical connection

finally bought a replacement and transducer. Mission accomplished!

I've decided to switch to a better transducer altogether ( Garmin Striker 4 ) and use this creative approach to installing it. I'll get much better overall navigation data/visualization than the basic factory LCD data/visualization and aside from the bit of work it will be to install, it's a $120 for the Garmin vs $344 for the factory OEM.
