@OperationROL @Brian eilrich and I were playing around with Brian's brand new 2017 212X. It is a beautiful boat with many nice features. I wanted to see how my '500 hour old' engines and pumps compared to his beast. Brian took his boat (one of the few times we let him drive that day:)) and @OperationROL took my boat. I was happy with the outcome. But I am concerned once his motors loosen up I may be playing beyond my league.

Nice race. Clean starts. What were the comparisons on fuel load and weight?

Wow! Good to know at 500 hours it's all good and still stout!

The power of MR-1 HOs! Unbelievable. Those are true race engines out of the factory.

I'm actually not surprised, I almost bought a 2009 242 LS earlier this year, love those engines.
Of course a flat bottom helps a lot here, too. But still - very impressive!

Flat bottom?
Don't both 2008 and 2017 212x models essentially have the same hull?
Same length?
Same beam?
Whats the weight difference between the two factory?
How much nos did @buckbuck use?
Any mods?
Both boats gonna be to Peoria?

Yeah, no flat bottom on these boats, they are both V-hull boats.

Makes me glad I didn't consider upgrading my boat! :)

2017 boat is about 300 lbs heavier from the factory. Our 'people weight' was fairly even but I think Brian had about 100 lbs more fuel then I.

No performance mods on either boat. Although I did consider tying an anchor to the rear cleat of that 2017 because I didn't know how it was going to turn out.

@Speedling I do burn 87 octane with ethanol added. Is that kinda like nos?

And yes, both boats are going to Peoria next weekend to strike fear in the heart of @OperationROL. We will show him what a fast boat looks like. You should race him, too.

Yeah, no flat bottom on these boats, they are both V-hull boats.

The 2017 212 hull is completely redesigned, it now has the "articulating" keel. Basically a keel that goes all the way to stern and ends with a small rudder that moves.
Yes, they are all V-hull, but the keel going all the way vs flat bottom at the stern makes a big difference for speed, in flat conditions.

Top one is my 2008. Bottom one is 2017.
Seems like I still have some vee at the stern.

Lol
Niel and i are usually neck and neck. His last boat was faster than this new one though!
I have a gps speedo and a phone to snap a picture this time so there should be no question what my boat actually does. Down wind down river little gas and i can throw my kids out and hopefully at least get the 52 i got before!

@buckbuck I think you are right, there is not that much difference between those 212s!
I'm surprised. The 240s are a huge change from previous hull, and the keel is very pronounced.

So horsepower means faster but keel means slower so it's a wash?
I would be very surprised.
Top speeds match pretty close as well?

I cranked the wheel over at 40 mph on the 2017 and it did not slide at all. That keel kept it gripping the water. When running back and forth across wakes it kept the boat firmly planted and going the direction it was headed.
When I cross a wake with my 2008 I have no idea where I am going to end up. It's a total free for all.

Best I have ever seen is 50 mph on my boat. My speedometer is actually pretty accurate when comparing to a gps. I suspect @Brian eilrich will find his topping out a bit higher once it loosens up. But for now I am holding my head high.
