I'm curious when most of you here in the midwest decide to call it a season and put your boats to rest for the year. I was hoping to get out several more times this year, but with the rainy weekends and sometimes cool weather we've been having. I'm beginning to wonder if it's time to pack it in.

The beauty of the jet drive is you can lightly winterize it every time you go out! I put mine away in late October last year.

I do it mid October because I'm busy coaching youth activities 5 days a week until the youth sporting season ends when I can catch my breath and do some maintenance.

Usually put her away early to mid October. Largely depends on weather to make sure she's 100% dry and aired out + to do the winterizing in the driveway.

What is this thing you call......"Winter"?
You have no idea how much I envy all of you that don't have to concern yourself with "Winter". Especially after last year. :arghh:

Well, you see, the air gets so cold that the water changes from a liquid to a solid - which our pumps are not designed to handle. This is problematic in developing enough thrust to....

Oh wait... You're being a wise guy huh? Be careful 'bout that after the winter we just had. You might find yourself being keel-hauled on someone's ice-boat. We're a little sensitive and irritated up here this year (think PMS - only on a predictable subject).

To answer the OP: I usually put away at the end of September or early October. The weather starts to close in and I don't want to be out there flushing engines on a cold, wet day. I've neglected some household projects this summer so I've probably only got one more "boating day" in my season if I'm lucky.

Once the water is cold enough where I say fugg that Im not going in, Im ready. Key factor is when my winterizing/shrinkwrap guy says I have time to do your boat XX weekend.

Good news is that hockey is right around the corner.

Ours is weather dependent, last year our last trip out was near the end of October and winterized in early November. We "try" to take a fall cruise when the leaves are in full turn. This is another reason I love these boats. I can completely winterize and perform the annual maintenance in 1/2 day or less, cover it and put it away.

Boating season here is Memorial Day to Labor Day. I won't put it away until early October on the hopes that we get a couple of unseasonably warm days where the wife and I can take off the afternoon from work and get out. That said, Fall appears to be here early this year. This weekend might be the end for us.

With the drought we experiencing here on the west coast I don't know if there will be an end of season other than when it does finally rain, on consecutive weekends for me. It will get cold in November but could warm up by February like it did last year.
I'm glad that I don't ever have to worry about shoveling snow though. As a result winterization consists mainly of Adding marine stabil to the fuel after Labor Day.

Keep in mind I write this in jest in a place where is it 112 degrees outside......

We haul out of Tahoe Labor Day, then get in a couple more weekends down in the lower lakes before she's all snuggled into storage about the middle of October.

Then it's on to ski season...of which all of us out here on the west are hoping to have.

Mid October here. The idea is to get it out when the boating opportunities start to dry up with still enough time left to get the maintenance done with decent enough weather.

Im boating in sacstmento outside my normal area this weekend and just heard the local news, they reported that since the lake is over 400' that people can still boat without speed restrictions on folsom lake. Ive never heard a news report like that, its maybe a normal occurrence for the locals though.

Mean while here in old sacramento the high will be 96. Its mice but toasty at their end off summer festival, cant wait to get on the water this afternoon.
