Guys and Gals!

Take a look at this photo. I ran 7-8K RPM all day in choppy water. I did hear what sounded like pump cavatation but it went away when I dropped down the RPM and brought them back up!

Checked the oil filter and no oil leaking could be “felt” or seen.

So before i get my wrench out-anyone seen anything like this?????

Btw. that oil looks too clean to be coming from my engines

When was your last oil change? If long ago, I agree, the oil looks way too clean. If recently, it could be overspill or from the engine.

At any rate, this is very little oil, really. In my book, it falls into the 'clean it up and recheck next time before & after you go out' bucket. Of course I would look around the engines to see if you have anything evident (like a bolt on the oil cooler missing, etc.).

I agree with tdonoughue, I might even take a paper towel to the bottom side of the engine to make sure it's clean and dry,

clean and check again,

Could have been some oil that spilled over while filling the reservoir, and moved around while you were running the boat?

As @Scottintexas said, take a clean paper towel and pat the bottom side of the motor. See if you can find a leak.

@gthh this is not untypical of the MR-1 engine. Especially if you are running a pure synthetic oil. I had the same issue on both engines until switching to a synthetic blend. It's been mentioned, on this forum, that pure synthetics may not be properly wetting the gaskets which causes them to seep. I went to a 20/40 blend and the problem is almost non existent. I may use pure dino oil on my next change.

thanks everyone. over 200 hours without seeing a drop of oil, strange noise and how clean the oil looked this late in the season (8 outings) did not add up. I will take a look and report back! Great Response Another example of how relevant and useful this forum is to the community.
