I have a yahama 242x 2019 that suddenly started revving the starboard engine when I try to accelerate when I'm set up for surfing. The starboard engine can run up to 500 RPM's above the port engine for no apparent reason. It eventually settles down to the same as the port engine when I get up on plane. I checked the cleanout ports and felt around the impeller and there does not appear to be any dings or anything clogging. I have no recollection of anything getting sucked into the impeller. Is there anything else I should be considering for causing this issue? If I take the boat to the dealer then I'm likely done surfing for the year because they are so backed up so I really want to find a way to manage this myself. Much appreciated!

Sounds like something in the impeller or wrapped around the drive shaft also check the clean out plug

I checked the clean out plug and felt around the impeller (from the boat which is in the water) and there is no sign of any blockage or dings in the impeller.

Sounds like cavitation I have seen a piece of fishing line in the impeller do that or a small piece of wood lodged in between the impeller blades that you can not see unless you pull the pump

Jeff, would you check your DM on the forum, have a question posted there to you.

Got both impellers replaced and it is still doing the same thing. $4k down the drain …. It only happens when I have a lot of weight on the boat with ballast tanks pretty full. Desperate for answers.

4k for 2 impellers replaces?

Anybody got feedback on what they paid at a dealer for two impellers and housings? They didn’t keep the parts which I asked for after I water tested and found out they didn’t work which is suspicious

Should have been more than half that. At the Very least half. For just 2 impellers and housings less than a grand each. Closer to 800 each
