Yeah...I'd think the 8# would be way light for a 242.

How much scope are you guys usually using with the Mantus? One thing I like about the Box is it doesn't need too much scope and thus the swing is limited.

About 6 to 1 scope would work, depending on the conditions. Be sure and watch the video on my website comparing the box anchor to the Mantus anchor before you purchase.

Has anyone ever thought of mounting an anchor roller to the bow? I feel like it could be bolted on the top of the anchor hatch and then some kind of bushing could be fabricated (or bought) for the anchor line and chain to pass through.

I kind of dig the way it looks on this Searay :)

Santa brought me an anchor roller and an anchor winch. Once the weather warms up I’m going to se if I can make it work. Plant to mount the winch under the deck.

I don’t have any real Anchor holding challenges.
My boating is exclusively in Reservoir lakes. Anchored in 20’ deep coves.

Let’s have the brain trust input on simplest, dependable anchor options?

In terms of other options, I have a 20lbs Navy anchor that holds very well almost all the time. Sometimes there are very large swells that drag it a bit before it holds again. I'm trying the mantus this year. The 13 does not fit on the 230 locker no matter what. I really like that the Navy anchor holds very quickly and it's compact and fits in the front locker of my 230. Last year I replaced the galvanized chain with stainless and it looks like a jewel. It weights a LOT though, so that's one draw back. I don't mind it.

I'll be able to report soon how the mantus compares in the situation where my Navy anchor did not perform.

Check this out @seanmclean

I’m not sure where I got this picture, but I just found it on my computer. Take a look at the anchor roller.

Whelp. Where's my sawzall?

Thanks for sharing, that looks better than I thought it might. Now we need to track down who's boat that is and get some more pictures! I wonder how visible that nav light really is.

That looks pretty good. I wonder if the whole roller is on pivot so you can open the hatch and flip it all out of the way when you want to put on the mooring cover... something like this

About to go past the point of no return on mine.

...I hadn’t thought about the mooring cover.

Either a hinge or some kind of QD system with (low-tech like hood pins) to remove it. It would be hidden under the hatch of the 240, but you would need to find something more appealing in the bow of the LS.

I was thinking the mooring cover could be cut, and add additional buckles/velcro underneath. Frankly, might make it easier to put on, the nose of my cover always slips off when I'm unrolling it, and god help me in high winds.

Here’s the roller I got. I’m going to replace the bolt with a quick release pin of some sort so I can remove most of it when I want to put the cover on. The base will stay in place and hopefully the cover will go over it. Will probably put piece of foam noodle over it to protect the cover.

It might work on the 242 to flip up and out of the way if you swap the rear roller and pivot point.

No going back now ;)

Drilled a 3” hole for the hawse pipe... couldn’t quite fit my hand through so I did a little strategic filing so my hand would fit. Bit of a coon trap now.

Was planning to mount it like this

How does it lock in the "at rest" position? One more picture?

I applaud your courage!!

But then I think it will be easier if it flips up and out of the way. So I changed the pivot point to the rear roller and flipped the bracket around.

Cover should go over this ok. Might still need some foam padding.

And here it is with the anchor in its resting position.

Pretty certain I'm going to upgrade my anchor to a 13# Mantus and I'm fine using the space under a front seat to store it. But how is everyone that stores them there, running their anchor line? Leaving it in the locker and attaching it when needed? I'd prefer a quicker solution to just grab, drop and reverse as I'm sometimes alone.

Great question! We use an extension cord reel. You can pick one up at any hardware store for a small price. It makes it easy to reel the anchor line back in. Also, it helps to get the anchor line all tangled up while being stowed. Hope this helps!
