Freak boating accident

Ladder down is a part of my monthly sacrifice to the gods. That and forgetting to pull fenders back in.

This was the anchor he had in the water on the rear of the boat. I think when he gunned it, the anchor line was stretched (building up energy in the line). Then when slowed down quickly the anchor line acted like a sling shot and launched the anchor (I think it was a mushroom style anchor)
How did he get the front anchor up with the back stationary?

I still think it is insane that we let 13 year olds in my state drive jet skis that are nearly as fast and powerful as organ donor crotch rockets.
It's 12 here (as my not-yet-12 year old son reminds me at least once/week). Though they are required to pass a boat safety course and stay within 500 yards of an adult.

Glad to hear all are OK.

First year out, I forgot to pull in the anchor (hooked up to bow, starboard side) and took off. The anchor shot out of the water and I saw something behind me coming at my head. I reached up and caught it with my right hand about a foot from my head. Have some scratches on the starboard side to remind about it. Haven't done it again!

Even more nuts (and fairly unenforceable) it sounds like.

I believe they have to pass something like a boat safety class here to. Unfortunately like most it doesn't appear they remember much from it.

Well the back anchor was a 20lb mushroom anchor. So not sure how securely set a mushroom anchor really gets. But that really doesn't matter. My friend was able to bring up his bow anchor with the rear anchor still in the water.

HOLY CRAP!!! Thank goodness you missed it.
