Well, finally after 8 years, the retaining chain on my fuel cap finally broke. :banghead:

Actually, the chain itself didn't break. It became detached from the clip on the inside of the fuel hose leading down to the tank. If it was detached at the cap end I could easily fix it. But since its detached inside the fuel hose I have no idea how to fix that without major disassembly of fuel components.

I'm thinking of just removing the chain from the cap and taking my chances that I won't drop the cap in the water. Although I can probably count on a fuel attendant dropping it in Davey Jone's locker

It looks like the new boats have a flip down fuel-cap which is really cool. But I think I read in the forum that they new style flip-caps are not easily interchangeable with the old style. :arghh:

I'm curious what others have done in similar situations.

I don't quite get it. I can't tell what attaches to what

jeesh, the gizmo goes in the hole, the clip goes on the cap. You'll need a bit longer chain though, I think, not sure.

here's another version
cap2.jpg try Googling fuel cap keeper chain or something like that

So this thing is probably for a motorcycle tank and might work on a PWC tank. But I don't think it will work on our boats. The filler has a long neck and tube down to the tank. I don't see what the gizmo would grab on to unless I screw it down to something.

Perko makes one too,

OFH_9-0537DP_main.jpg I "think" the ring gets compressed and held with long needle nose pliers - inserted down the fill tube, release the ring, it expands in place.

That may work. Thanks for the ideas! :D

I know I've had gas siphoned a few times so maybe its time for me to get something like this and attach the gas cap chain to it!

Speaking of that, there was a guy on the other site who was going to make a locking cap. I sent him my plastic cap to use as a model so he could machine the threads properly. Ever hear anything more about that?

I remember that You upgraded to that gas cap that makes your boat go faster. ;)
But I don't remember if there was ever a final result on the locking cap

Maybe you could weld the chain back on. No No, I mean JB Weld.
