That there should always be 2 boats in the house "His and Hers" similar to cars. I love my yammie and wife prefers a family boat and neither one will be happy with the others choice. Did anybody have any luck in such an endeavor?

This thread atleast will have some entertainment in the days ahead, narrating all the experiences you guys faced when in a similar situation.

Cheers
Amar.

@robert843 to the rescue! He is an expert on relationship management for amateur captains, he helped me figure some purchasing strategies once or twice, hope he can chime in.

Thanks @swatski If I keep my boat I will give you a shoutout regarding the installation of the trim tabs

I’ve tried to convince the mrs we need two boats (at least). Not much luck though.

Maybe get a canvas from the windshield to the back of the Bimini to help the mrs with the weather and sun.

That is a good idea. @Julian had a contraption like that in his old 230 I think?

I'm confused my Yamaha is a family boat. Do t you have a ar240. Is she wanting something bigger?

I read the other thread. My dad had a cuddy for a very short time. He sold it when he slipped on the front deck loading the trailer. Plus that cuddly was Hot in the summer, so nobody used it.

Women love to want to take their home with them wherever they go. I think seeing too many azimuths on tv and around Miami :D

Get her something else (like upgrade her diamond ring) and she will compromise :)

Actually, it sounds like a family boat and a jet ski would do it.

Thought of a Jetski and tried them but nothing beats a yammie.

The best strategy that I have seen is what @swatski did. Get a small boat and take her to Bimini in it, then she will demand that you get a bigger boat such that she will be happy with the Ar240 when you upgrade.

God bless her heart :) She agreed to 2 boats as long as there are some upgrades to the home that she has been asking for. Now I need to figure out how to pay for the second boat as well as the house upgrades. :arghh:

I bought my SX210 before I sold my bass boat. I loved seeing two boats in the garage. For my wife, I think that got old by the second day. She is awesome and has certainly let me get away with plenty of mods (like the much anticipated lateral thruster shipment); but if you want two boats, it probably will make life easier if you keep them in separate places so she doesn't feel like they are taking over the homestead.

After two weeks of two boats in the garage, I just rolled it out in the drive during a neighborhood garage sale. It was sold by 10:00 am. The guy who bought it was just being nice joining his mother on a Saturday morning garage sale ritual. He didn't expect to get a new toy for himself. I wonder what his wife thought when her mother-in-law let him drop a bunch of cash and come home with a boat out of the blue?

Yes...We will be a 2 boat family soon. We will keep the Yamaha as well as add a 30+' sailboat for weekend overnight outings. And I did not have to convince her...Luck sure,it was her idea!
She started taking lessons at the International Sailing School, late this summer, took 101 &103. She must of been bit bad by some water bug, and it is contagious. I am learning all I can, about sailing and buying a sailboat. The season is ending here, so my sailing lessons will happen in the spring.

Like @zipper we were, and will again be a 2 boat family. The original deal I made with my wife was that I would sell the Yamaha when we got a cruiser. I made a strong effort and l never got an offer I was happy with so we ended up keeping it. We enjoyed having it when we wanted to keep it simple and/or just run around the lake. Then came this past July, and still today, we are very thankful that we never sold her.

We've always envied our friends who had or have big boats to stay on and we thought that we could never afford it. We got to seriously looking and after putting pen to paper we realized that we could do it. Just mentioning the idea to my wife of getting a cruiser was all it took. I guess I'm lucky! We love the cruiser life and we can hardly wait to get our next one. There's nothing like sleeping on a boat out on the water.

Every time we hit rough water I talk about a new bigger boat but my wife is tough, she just says "man up, get me my beer and where's my rod!" :(:p;).

"Gone up in flames...."

@PEARCE , what happened to your new to you cruiser?

My wife and I have played with the idea of buying a used cruiser and looked at few but decided to wait at least a few more years. When we hit our 50s our son will be in college and I'm already sick of trailering so that's when we will take another look as both of us are looking forward to just showing up and enjoying the day or weekend on the water. I plan to keep the Yamaha for the times we want to do water sports, as a dinghy when we don't want to take the big boat out and as a boat I can take to other bodies of water.

Since we have little experience with bigger boats we are going to start smaller and older (limit it to 35' and up to 20 years old) and started a must have list. For me, it must have a fly bridge and the main deck totally enclosed. My wife wants a full size head and shower. We both want a/c, tv, and lots of windows .

Just show her this chart....should work out just right:-)
