Looking to build a mounting bracket for my Weber Q1200. I don't like grilling on the table or swim platform. Bow works best but need to find a way to secure it up front. The Weber bottom is open so there is no way of securing a mount directly to grill. I already have 2 of these grills and I love them. Can't justify the cost of the Magma grills. Here is something I came up with that may or may not work. Looking for any insight on whether I should try to tackle it or not.

I have a Weber stand for the grill. I am thinking of taking the top off of the legs and mounting 1/2" marine lumber to the bottom over the opening. The lumber will be attached to the bottom of the top with some nuts and bolts. I will then attach a Magma level lock to the The grill is able to lock into place on stand and should be able to withhold the boats movement while anchored.

The plastic for the top is only about a 1/4" thick. Do you think it will be able to hold the stress of having the lumber secured to it? Also the grill is approximately 30lbs.

Here is a link to the Magma level lock to attach it to boat.

I get what youre designing. I would probably fill those voids in the plastic with either epoxy or 3M 5200. You may even want to place your bolts through first and then fill in around them with 5200 so they are double secured. Either way, it would stiffen the area. Keep us posted, I love the Qgrills.

@Monterro you might want to consider the weight of your grill and mounting assembly and the stress that it will put on the fiberglass around the level lock base. You'll be well over 31 lbs and might end up with spider cracks.
I understand how you love your Weber, but it may not be the best tool for what you want to do with it.
The Magma Cabo weighs less than 12 lbs and you can buy a carrying case for it that holds all of your grill accessories in one place. The carrying case is worth every penny because it contains all of the grease that eventually leaks out of the grill and none of it gets on the boat. The Cabo is on sale at West Marine for $170. Consider that $170 gets you a grill that you don't have to modify vs the time and materials needed to make a base for the Weber.
Just a thought.

@Monterro , I think what you described would work, if it were me I would secure the top to the wood with at least eight screws, maybe more, passing through predrilled holes in the top. I would also use over sized washers on the topside to spread the load over the plastic top out a little better.

Like @MrMoose stated, I dint think the BBQ you plan to use is the best choice given its weight and size but I'm not very particular about how I cook my food on the water just greatful to be able to do it at all.

@MrMoose for some reason I thought the weight of the Magma would be more. Since I have two of these grills already I didn't want to have to buy another grill and I like how the Weber could easily be used off the boat too. Hmm I guess I got a decision to make.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I will pass on trying to make a mount for the Weber. I don't won't to risk damaging the boat due the the weight of it. I went to West Marine and saw the Magma grills. Definitely not Weber quality but it will do for the boat. Its not like Im smoking ribs on it or anything. I also like the storage bags for it. Big plus being able to store the propane bottles and all the cooking utensils together. The whole set up is more than I was wanting to spend but I will sell my extra Weber grill. That will at least cover the cost of the Cabo. Thanks again everyone. Will post pics once I get everything installed.
