Since @Ronnie asked (and I didn't want to clog the other thread)...

I hit something, apparently, in my last outing or so last season:

Weird thing is that I really don't know exactly what I hit or when I did it. I hit a stump before (other side--not as bad) and knew it immediately. This one--no clue.

Anyway, I decided that this one is probably beyond my capabilities (and time allotment), so I have taken it to the pros. They said it may need to be repaired from the top side as well. If not and they can do it all from below, the estimate was still north of $1k. So I filed the insurance claim...

Ouch! If it’s any consolation, I bet the same repair in CA would be $3k + .

Looks like you came alongside something (like a submerged tree limb).
If you were at speed, you would not have noticed (heard or felt) a glancing hit in that area.
It would be difficult to DIY in that area. Repairing that chine won't be easy, so you are smart to leave it to the Pro's!
In a couple of seasons you will forget the "pain" of these types of repairs (I have).
Is this a "flooded" lake like the Ozarks??
It sounds like you have a lot of debris and submerged trees in the lake.
Fortunately, I have a lot of choices for boating lakes but there are a few lakes and area of lakes I avoid because of damage I had to repair after...

Good luck with your repair and let us know how the repair worked out.

Yes. I boat on Conroe and Livingston. This was probably Livingston. Both have plenty of trees and stumps. I had a smaller hit before and repaired it myself (mostly). Never finished with the gelcoat on it and now it is failing a bit and needs cleanup. Ah, well. This is why I have insurance.

Looks like you hit the dorsal fin of a great white shark.

THAT'S IT!

Mystery solved. Thanks, @Gym.

Coda: Insurance claim filed. GEICO paid basically in 1 week (very quick and easy, but I am dreading the next renewal). On the schedule for repair week after next.

They started the repair today. On the right side in the middle you can see where they just started to hit foam. Bigger repair... Must go in from the top as well. Bummer. But good thing I did the insurance claim...

Coda to the coda:

Today (my birthday), got a call from my repair guy that the boat is done and ready to be picked up. Went up and the bottom is pristine. A lovely job. Northwest Fiberglass Conroe -- write it down if you are in the area. Looks very good, no hollow sounds, and a very clean pick up!

Looks like a great resistor job. Good as new. Probably better.

The time we took a trip to Livingston with the Yamaha camping we had a few close calls that I saw I barely missed. Too much pucker factor for my comfort! Beautiful lake though. It just has too much going on just below the surface.

@tdonoughue You said they will have to go in from the top. Did they cut out any of the interior sole in the cockpit to make the repairs?

Nope. They pulled the gas tank and went in through the side of that space (and then repaired it). A very clean repair.

Made it up to the boat this afternoon to re-establish it (put everything back in that I had taken out, etc.). Took the cover off and the port aft cleat came half way off the boat. When I grabbed it, it came all the way out. They were nowhere near that with the repair, so I think it is just coincidental. Anyway, that delayed the restocking a bit, as I pulled off the cleanout tray, then the port cup holder to get all of the hardware out of the bilge, then reattach the cleat.

Got it all done in time to learn that they have now issued a stay at home order for my county. I can go to the lake, but they can't valet my boat for me. Sigh.

Getting mine done today, what I thought was a small scratch turned into a much more expensive job. I also am using insurance as the quote came to around $1600. They had to cut a hole in the front locker floor to do the proper repair.

Do you know what it was you hit? Tough deal...

Please update if Geico, (Old Boat US) jacks your premium and by how much. Will be helpful to others when we have to undergo a similar mess. Thanks!

Damage was even more extensive than originally thought. Over $6K the quote came to because of the location. Thankfully insurance covered it but wondering about my premium now. No idea what hit me just noticed it coming off the lake last year.

6k for that?? I'd ask for a thorough explanation and survey on the damaged area(s).

You saw mine above. Mine was less than $6k... but just $200 less.
