Hook that runs in the tongue?

Curious about the purpose of this hook and cable that runs inside my trailers tongue. TIA!AA6F8882-4E24-4A0C-A131-2B94553B844D.jpeg

That is the safety lanyard to activate the trailer brakes if the trailer becomes disconnected from the this vehicle.

just an fyi since you weren't aware of the emergency cable,
Do you know what the brown bolt and space is for just above the "push before use sticker" ?

This is from our FAQ tab at the top of the page, we have a section for trailers/tow vehicles, incase you hadn't noticed it before,

Also the claws the crabs under the ball inside the mount is adjustable, be sure yours is adjusted so it won't come off the ball even with the handle in the down position,

and since you have 2009, probably with a swing tongue, if your lights flicker or have a problem with ground it's easiest to just run a jumper around the swing joint and that will fix bad grounds,

I assumed that bolt and space is the compression space for the surge brakes. I see what looks like a cap for brake fluid recessed inside the tongue. Not sure if you're supposed to check fluid there or not. I'll go do some reading in FAQ.
