I too boat in salt water, so I wash inside and out after every outing. Even if there is a storm coming (after boating), I'll wash with boat soap and rinse, but I won't dry it.

Wipe it down and Hot Sauce it every time as soon as it comes out of the water. I wash it every now and then as needed, but it really doesn't need it to often. I've also gotten into the habit or wiping it down while I'm floating in a cove drinking a few cold ones. I just use a microfiber cloth and lake water to get some of the water spots off. I think it makes wiping it down at the end easier.
