I was winterizing by boat this year. I didn’t know you could run your boat without water for a short period of time. So I started the water then the engine. I fogged my engine for 10 or so minutes. Cut the water off then hooked up my antifreeze pump and bucket. Turned on the motor then the pump. Getting worried reading about how important it is to start the motor first before the water. How would I know if I did anything bad to the motor?

Hydro lock is just that it locks up the engine so if the engine did not lock up and it ran ok and you do not see any water in the oil you will be fine .
It takes a while to get water to feed back into the engine it must first fill the water box and then go up the exhaust so a minute or 2 is usually not a big deal.

I would check the oil though. Make sure the level isn't overly high and there's no water in it.
