I’m thinking about selling my boat / getting out of boating

Ronnie, My son/fishing partner went away to college for the last 4 years, but every summer we went out just about every weekend. Wont he be back for the summers?? Granted my trailering situation is much easier but when he left I didnt think about selling.

We just visited there last weekend and realized that we could sell our home in Silicon Valley and move the 35 to 40 miles to discovery bay with a dock in the backyard and still end up with a lower mortgage payment and term in the process. My wife is looking into working from home primarily / only go into the office twice a week. My commute would get shorter miles wise but remain the same time wise. We have a lot going on the rest of the summer but come October we may be selling and house hunting.

Nothing like this:

Something like this (one of them anyway):

I Would love to be done or rarely towing, launching and recovering and I would no longer want to buy and wet slip a live aboard there or at all.

Love those. The Rick me approves.

So awesome @Ronnie. let me know when the dock party is and where I can park my boat. :)

@Ronnie I may reconsider launching in the delta if your dream comes to fruition. I forsee a large continguent of jet boaters patrolling the waters of Discovery Bay to lay anchor at your new digs. You can’t hide if you are on the water, so watch for us.

So I’ve moved away from selling the boat and my wife and I are starting to seriously consider selling our house and moving to one on the water in Discovery Bay, possibly by next summer.

If you can make it happen, you will never regret it. As much as you love all your watercraft, you would be able to keep them and enjoy them all, rather than figuring out how to tow them all.

It's so cool having the waverunners for a quick rip, or the big boat for taking out friends and family. There is something to be said about the quality of life on the water!!

Good luck!

My wife and I made a commitment to Lake Havasu a couple years ago. Granted we are not ON the lake with a dock but only 3 minutes from the boat ramp and a nice view of the lake from our back patio. We have gone back and forth about a home there but I am to the point where I am kinda done with home maintenance. I just can't keep up with it any more. We are on our second round of remodels since we have been in this house. We love the place and our kids grew up there but I'm not getting any younger. We have a nice little modular home in a nice senior community. I know, it sounds boring, but these people are so in to being there, on the lake, all the time. Its great.

Do it. You won't regret it.
