@Majorsmackdown's tow is over 3,200 miles and he is coming back for 2017. You can do it.

I spent 6 years commuting 70,000 miles a year = 420,000 miles, another 2 years @ 40,000 a year = 80,000 miles, I figure at 47 years old I have driven well over a million miles, kind of burnt out on driving anywhere over 8 hours these days - if over that I fly. That's the buzzkill for me unfortunately.

Replied in the other thread to ya, maybe I can convince the wife after I cancelled we are back on? She got a little worried when I showed her the last forecast. So maybe. I can decide tomorrow about a Saturday crossing but we may sit it out now...

@Bruce monday for a return looks like it is ramping up again. You would need to be in Port Everglades by 9/930 at the latest. Kinda risky alone. If there was 4-5 boats I would be in.

It is better to err on the side of safety. Based on the current forecast you would have to be ready to return in 3 to 4 foot water.

Personally I want to go at slow times of the year.

Bimini is on my bucket list, but the drive to Fort Lauderdale is 2342 miles one way from my house in Arizona, that alone is a buzz kill thinking about driving that many miles.

Just do your homework so you travel safely and prepared for roadside issues (jacks, flares, lug wrench, gloves, flashlights, warm clothes, spare tire(s), roadside assistance, emergency gas, air compressor, flat repair kit)....etc. so when you travel you TRAVEL. I'm pretty sure it's no exaggeration that after the first 900 miles 2342 is about the same. My roundtrip was 6800 miles and I plan to go again next year if it's not too close to school getting out for my kids. If you set your mind to it and of course if you can afford the time it takes and $$$ you can do it. I bought quite a bit of gear just for the Bimini trip so I got to go again to bring the average cost per use down.

We were out on the boat today, and I heard the most encouraging thing come from Mrs. Moose's mouth. "If we ever go to Bimini again, I want to bring better food." Then, on the way back to the marina, we pounded over some 1.5 foot chop, and I had to remind her that the boat wasn't breaking and that everything was going to be ok. I think that it's the banging sounds that get her on edge, and not so much the physical bumping, so maybe I'll get her some ear muffs, or install a louder sound system. With respect to the physical bumping, I'm expecting another butt bruise to show up tomorrow, from that bar in my seat-bottom when we landed kinda hard, once.

@MrMoose, @1948Isaac is very happy with this trim tabs. Perhaps you should add some and give @MrsMoose a magic carpet ride to Bimini.

For the crossing back home from Bimini - I got a nice bath towel and folded it a few times to get the right shape and set it on my seat, I didn't feel the metal in the seat anymore. Perhaps there's something more comfortable yet - like a gel filled car cusion - if the goo doesn't ooze out.

There are a number of marine seat suspension options. But you can get trim tabs that will make the ride better for everyone. On the return crossing we were comfortable without any painful impact until I accelerated to over 30 to catch up near Port Everglades. I increased trim from 50% to 75% and it was comfortable again.

Bruce, having tabs sould be mandatory if anyone wants to go to bimini as part of the group...lol. yeah i agree with you, my boat spray alot to the sides but nothing inside. I wasn't expecting the tabs to make such a huge difference as they did.. i am glad i install them... so far they are worth every dollar

We didnt went to bimini no because of the weather but because of something that came up last minute but today is been choppy out on the gulf and i have to say i dont know why i end up putting a sound system before putting tabs on my boat.... next boat i get i will put tabs before i even put the registration numbers... the dont just make a bit of a difference, they make a huge.difference expecially in choppy water... this boat went from jumping to smooth as soones i put the taps down the boat just goes straight and smooth... my boat my windshield and my back would of been in way better conditions if i would of install them since i bought this boat. This taps have a very nice future also, as soonest i shut off the.engines they retract to the up position, saving you from back up your boat or forgeting putting them in the up psition and damaging them... all i can say is that if you own an ar240, get them install , it will save your marragie if you take your wife out in a choppy day or to bimini in rought weather..... when i put them all the way down i lose around 6 to 7 miles for a top speed of 42 miles. If i have them half way down (best possition) you end up losing about 3 miles for a top speed of 46 miles... i have put them in the down position when i am doing 48 miles, and i havent have any problems so far.

This weekend i took the boat out , i got together with @Lou4 and @242YLS , i took them for a ride on my boat on the gulf, we had 3 to 4 ft chop. To make the story short after 25 minutes of riding on the gulf with.the.tabs.half way down and the boat not even moving , just a very nice ride like if we had no wind at all doing 40 miles, they were speechless. They couldn't belive it how much of a difference and comfortable ride it was having the taps with out getting beat up . They both are ordering taps for there boats.... One's again , i dont know why in the heck i didnt get the taps sooner... it is not just a bit of a differences , it is a huge.night and.day difference.. my boat its a completely different boat , i cant belive how nice of a ride we had this weekend.regardless of the sea conditions.
