Hello Everyone,

I am wondering what a rough estimate would be to have a shop replace the intermediate bearings and the seals in the drive shaft/ impeller area, assuming labor is $120 an hour.
I don't really feel confident nor have the tools required to do this job on my 2005 Yamaha sx230
There are no leaks and no noises or impeller / shaft play but I do not know when these parts were last replaced, being that the boat has 2,884 hours on it I would rather replace them than have a bad day on the water.
Thanks

The cost of the parts should be bad unless you are replacing the bearing housing. The labor cost maybe shocking though because getting to and reinstalling the bearing may take a while.

Here is a link and screenshot to give you an idea on parts costs.

If there is no sign of failure, why replace them? Have the engines been replaced?

Are your engines original?

Call jet ski shops in your area to get a feel for the price. Engine in and out, difficulty, etc. Would not be surprised with 1k-2k per engine. I would learn how to do it at those prices. My 2008 is doing great and I don't plan on messing with it until it shows fine signs of need, but I plan to do it myself when it needs it, although I have no idea how to do it.

The port engine was replaced in 2016, the paperwork when I purchased the boat showed that it was an engine replacement and an oil change, nothing about bearings or seals.
And yes it's got 3000 hours on the hull and that many hours on the starboard engine which I assume is original

I'd like to see that yds print out,
That may be the most hours we've heard on an engine

I wouldn't change it unless it was giving some sign of problems, definitely go to a ski shop

@Beachbummer has informed you that just to remove the intermediate bearing, there will be an engine in/out charge. I would try to wait until you have diagnosed an actual problem with the bearings. Do not overpack them with grease. Do you have a service manual for the boat?

@Scottintexas I bought the yds cd and wire but I don't have an old laptop that can support that software I only have windows 8 and up, I'd love to use the yds features tho for diagnostics. The hour meter shows 2884, I put on about 100 hours last season

@WREKS Yes I have a service manual and grease them before the season starts, I try to be careful to not over pack, I put in a couple pumps per bearing

@tahmad575 I loaded the YDS on my Windows 10 desktop yesterday. It may work with a pc with win8 and a usb port.

@WREKS thanks I'm definitely going to look into it again, might need to download the software since the laptop doesn't have a CD tray

@4x15mph Thanks I'll have these estimates to compare to the shops, appreciate it

I would love to see the YDS print out of those hours. That has to be the poster child for the MR-1 engine.

@buckbuck that gives me a weird feeling of being proud but also concerned because I have to take care of it extra well and pay more attention to that engine
I'll try my best to get a yds printout this year

If you really have 3000 hours i think my mr-1 motors will make me happy until retirement!

@Speedling in the near future I want to get a new 242x with less than 100 hours so that I can be the one to put the 3000 hours on, I bought this boat with 2700 hours on it. That is what the hour meter tells me, going to try to get a yds reading soon

Took the boat out Saturday and today as well, I have a minor oil leak, not the filters or oil pan bolts, I tightened those up before I got on the water. It looks like it's dripping from the port engine which is the one that was replaced by sbt in 2017. I believe the leak is coming from the starter motor because it had significant oil on it, checked around other seals like head to block and crankcase cover and oil pump cover all looks good.
Will know by tomorrow night if it's the port starter motor because I didn't have tools on me at the marina on Sunday
