I recently purchased a house and this was buried in the greenhouse. I do not know anything about boats and was told the previous owner was going to rebuild it but didn't. The floor is soft up front but everything behind the driver is solid. I can't seem to find a VIN on anything. Here are a few pics. Can someone please confirm what this is, where to find the VIN and is this of any value?

I found this on the internet, so it must be true:

ABOUT HAWAIIAN BOATS, INC.
Hawaiian Boats was from 1974 1/2 until 1980. The company was owned by Dick Schuster, the same guy that started Tahiti. Dick had a partner in Hawaiian, Jerry Groom, who was a bean counter that came from Bell Industries, the company that bought Tahiti from Dick in the late 60's. They started Hawaiian from material that they back doored from Tahiti, Jerry went to prison over the deal. Dick made boats off and on through the 80's and 90's under the Hawaiian name but never on a big scale.

So, there is that. I know HIN's (a boat's VIN, but it is Hull ID No.) are commonly on the transom, usually the starboard side. They are required on boats manufactured after 1972, so all the Hawaiian's should have them. You might find it stamped on the block of the engine, as well. And since you don't know where that is, I assume you don't have paperwork on it. So that means that there is probably a prior owner on record somewhere...

As to any value... I am skeptical. There looks to be a lot of time damage on this one. You are looking at certainly some structural repair on the softness. Re-upholstery. Hard to tell on the engine, except that certainly something was living in there (and I see a bolt plugging a hose--not a good sign). The rest looks to be surface rust. But you are certainly looking at some work on the engine. That is a distributed engine, so you likely have need of a rotor, cap, wires, plugs, oil, filters, etc. Big question will be whether there is still oil in it and if the crankshaft even turns. If it is frozen up it may be rusted internally (big problems) and you may be looking at at new engine.

Can't really tell too much as to the jet from this angle, other than that it is painted. So it's not corroded or anything... Need to inspect the impeller and see how bad the intake path is (rough, gaps, etc. or smooth?).

Boats are at a premium right now. But this will be a fair bit of work and $$$ to bring up to a condition to sell (and who knows what the market will look like then). So, IMHO, negligible value. If you want to play with it, do it for fun. If you can get any money out of it (and if you get the title cleared), it will be a while.

Thank you! This is very helpful information. I'll dig around more and try to locate the HIN

Oh! I see it in the picture. Starboard side, on the transom, at the top. It is stamped there.20210531_203429z.jpg

I see it now too, if was a snake it would've bit me! Thank you!

Cool boat - if you can't get the motor running and decide to scrap it out, the Berkley jet pump will be worth some money.
