We just moved from Houston to Jax a few weeks ago. We are in the area of fruit cove and the St. John’s river is just a few miles from us. I have not seen anybody tubing or water skiing, for you locals, is it safe to to some water sports or is there specific areas where these activities are normally done? With info on alligators etc in the area, best just to ask for recommendations. We always went to lakes in the Houston area so this is all new.

Hi there and welcome to the area. The St. John's is a fun place to boat. You will on occasion see boaters pulling tubes and water toys alike. It not something you will see regularly unless you get back in some of the creek areas or places like Doctors Lake. Black creek is a very popular area for boats pulling toys, but depending on when you go, it can get very crowded. We normally will tow southeast towards Lake Santa Fe. We have been visiting there for years, and for us, it is worth the 1.5 hour drive. I live up north of you in Nassau county, so the St. Marys river is also a fun place to boat.
