Jet Ski accident....

The accident where the kid was knocked unconscious while jumping freighter wakes was in the Egmont channel in front of Fort Desoto fishing pier east of Egmont island and west of the skyway bridge. My stomping grounds actually. when taking you ski in the air on those wakes you need to know exactly what you are doing . I run those all the time.

I used to hit waves like that at wot all the time. Lots of times even bigger waves. Once I busted off my front teeth and split my entire lip. I wasn't even catching big air, just blasting through a series of 4' wakes from two tug boats. It'd done that 100s of times but it started hoping side to side and I didn't let out like I should have. Hit a wave broad side and went over the bars to smash my face on the bow of the ski.

Ouch. Ive only been wave jumping in the ocean twice, awesome both times but definately a different level of risk.

Yea those things do happen, When I was in my 50's I would jump the wake of the dolphin racer steering with my feet no less They called me the CRAZY jetskier, Go FIGURE. No one gets out alive!

I go out in hurricanes and jump waves alone, having someone along would do you no good because if you leave the ski they won't be able to find you and you won't find the ski so forgetaboutit. just be careful and hope you don't screw up.
I hit sand bars running in water that the birds are standing in, Happened a couple of times and once I was hit by a cormorant flying out of a tree when I drove by at 55mph never saw it coming from above until it hit my hood breaking it then it bounced off and hit me in the right eye socket and gave me a concussion. But I honestly worry more about the fools in boats targeting you while you are just driving along cruising, especially if you are a lone jet ski . I was in the very same location where that video was taken all by myself having a good old time when a boat flew by me from behind just to see how close he could get and they were all laughing about it , this happens all the time or they aim at you head on I will move out of the way once if they make an obvious course adjustment to aim at me again I just stay the course and turn on my video camera then I turn 90 degrees at w o t when they are on top of me to discourage them from doing that again.
