JetBoaters.net Bimini Fling July 9th to 14th 2018

I am not aware of anyone with experience who is planning to cross on Sunday.
That does seem to be the case. However I will add that I have significant small craft ocean experience in both the Pacific and the Gulf. Full transparency I’ve not ever crossed the “Gulf Stream” before, but I am 100% confident I have the competent experience, skills, and knowledge base to do so.

So there is truly safety in numbers and I welcome those who want to join is Sunday morning. Time TBD but based on wave forecasts the earlier the better! However I totally understand if no one decides to join us Sunday based on the above.

@haknslash, my understanding is that everyone who has not cancelled has a condo.

That's good to hear. It's just kind of concerning that so many on this group are first time crossers and some are brand new to this forum yet I don't see them participating in this thread. I hope they are monitoring and making the necessary adjustments to their schedules for the crossing windows.

Most that are responding on the forum seem to be crossing on Saturday which has the best forecast.

Sunday’s forecast has gotten a little better.

My family is still planning for Tuesday.

Of our previous group leaders, @Water Girl ’s boat is crossing on Saturday but she has to work today so she is likely ferrying or flying to Bimini and @Kevin Sargent is undecided if he is going.

I also have to work today putting a Saturday crossing out of my reach.

For those that want to cross on Saturday following @Berrie is an excellent option. He is experienced and his large boat is well equipped. Additionally I believe that @Betik will be in that Saturday crossing on @Water Girl’s boat.

Half our group is working today, too. At best we would get off, and drive all night for an AM launch. That makes for a bad experience for a boat of newbs. I think we may opt for Tuesdays crossing. That gives us time to get to FL comfortably, and maybe even take the boat out on Monday to see how she feels. I took her a few miles off the coast of Savannah a few weeks ago and everything checked out, no issues. Less hassle with the rooms as well.

Do you found something for your self? Room.thanks for everything

I believe that everyone who did not cancel has a condo now. My family is in 3a now.

The return forecast for Saturday appears to be around 2’ pushing you home. This is similar to the 2016 return crossing. Friday has bigger water and Sunday has smaller.

I am not aware of anyone with experience who is planning to cross on Sunday.

I thought for sure @Betik would join @Rod5 and help captain those on Sunday over. Seems like a perfect job for @Betik. With the separate departure dates providing limited size of groups, I think y'all will realize an unplanned benefit. It's easy to count and watch out for 3 or 4 boats. It's can be tough to manage once the group sizes get larger. I would highly suggest for any first timers to get of wide of the boat(s) your going with and do not ride directly behind them. I would do this immediately out of the inlet. I believe you'll realize much more predictable seas and you want be fighting their wake along with whatever the stream throws at you.

I'm still working to try and get Sunday off to go cross with them but I'm not having much success at this time. Too many damn people in my department are on vacation right now from the 4th of July Holiday and they don't return till Monday.

For our Sunday Group, need to Add omar8thgen. We have all the necessary equipment needed on each vessel. PLB's, VHF's, multiple GPS and compasses, Gas tanks. plus tools, ropes and other items. Out of the entire group there are only 2 jetskis going. The rest are either cruisers or center consoles and 1 AR210. Unfortunately for this trip many of us have decided to leave our jets home due to weather conditions.

I, too, would be concerned with people’s lack of involvement in this forum. Historically those that don’t follow this feed are often very ill-prepared when they get to Bahia Mar. it doesn’t seem as though this trip is going to allot time for those to get “up to speed” at Bahia Mar. It is that exact lack of planning that causes disparities in people’s crossing experiences.

Is follwing the wake of another boat more fuel effecient? Been wondering since my last trip to bimini. It was hard to tell. So i opted to not be in the wake.

Is it because he’s going to captain @Water Girl boat?

I've been monitoring the forum have not decided can't make Saturday's crossing .Think about Tuesday

If you are talking about a jet boat or jet ski I have not found it to be more fuel efficient.

Seems like the Saturday group is in pretty good communication already. For you Sunday crossers I would highly recommend setting up a time Saturday evening to meet, discuss departure times, breaking into smaller groups if needed, communication expectation Sunday morning to ensure all are up and running, what boats have what gear in case you do decide to segment, who's going to take the lead, etc. If everyone is on the same page it sure makes the group crossing so much easier and doesn't cause any undue last minute stress or frustration.

I have sent this via text to everyone who has registered.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is Bruce,

I know that some of you have cancelled your Bimini plans. I am sorry about the troubles with Bimini Sands and wish that the weather were better.

I want to make sure that everyone is aware that Monday's forecast is close to 3' seas with high winds. There will be no official crossing on Sunday.

Berrie is leading a group across on Saturday which has the best forecast of the next several days.

I plan to cross on Tuesday with everyone that does not make the Saturday crossing. Tuesday has the second best forecast of the next four days.

Additionally Bimini Sands cancelled 12 of our condo reservations. I understand that everyone whose condo was cancelled has either been assigned another condo or has cancelled.

If you are not please check the forum regularly for updates.

We are still shooting for Saturday. My bf is basically at south of the border with the boat right now trying to meet with @Betik. He’s been up over 24 hours. Trying to get there but not sure if it will make it by sat am but trying hard. If he can meet with Betik then he can get some sleep and hopefully make it by Saturday.

Sunday group:
I know a lot of us will be pressing all day Saturday to arrive in time to launch, park, fuel up, check in, etc. Pleases advise if a Saturday 8:00 pm captains meeting is not do able for you?
We will organize and discuss the must dos and don’s.
