So instead of going to Lake Wissota, we ended up going twice to Lake Holcombe.
We have been pontooning on this lake for the last six summers and this was the first time on the Yamaha.
Observations:
The lake is absolutely gorgeous. Lots of tree lined shores with an occasional Bald Eagle nest. We saw several flying and even have captured pictures of them fishing in the past.
There are several places to explore and look at homes and lots of room to tube. There are also two islands to beach at where people swim and play football, etc....
The lake is generally empty during the week. I have not seen it on the weekend.
There are two restaurants that we frequent, Ted's and Big Swede's. Ted's has better food and outside lake view seating while Big Swede's is a family owned Wisconsin style bar with average food.
The first day out we put in at Ted's. The ramp is quite uneven and steep. The steepness caused great difficulty in getting the boat back on the trailer due to the geometry of the bow vs. the bow roller. Damaged the gelcoat on that one.
The second day out, we put in at Lake Holcombe Marina. This is a private ramp, but they let us use it because we had a few hundred bucks of trailer work done there during our visit. This ramp is better, but still steep enough that it took several attempts to get the bow above the roller. I just am not a huge fan of the momentum power up required to slide the boat up the bunks.
We did look at a ramp by East Bay but it was too shallow. There is another public ramp north of Big Swede's that was nice but it also looked steep.
