I'm looking to replace my deluxe factory mooring cover. Only 3 years old and it has lost its molecular structure. On a sunny day if I get in the boat under the cover I can see through it now and its barely water resistant any more. I'm looking for an aftermarket custom cover that's better quality than the $800 factory cover that only lasts 3 years. The last custom cover I had for my other boat was 10 years old when I sold it. If someone has already done this it may be cheaper than to have the local shop design a new one from scratch.

I went the local canvas shop route, and they did design it from scratch. Had bow, cockpit and bimini w/ boot done and snaps installed on boat. You have your old one to use as a pattern, so it may be cheaper. Sunbrella fabric is much nicer/thicker than the Surelast factory fabric we replaced. I know your mooring/towing is a different situation, but having custom made, bimini for instance means you can add zippers on the 3 or 4 sides for vinyl Windows or sunshades.

I have a couple local shops but I figured if someone already has a pattern it may be cheaper. I also don't want the snaps. On the old boat snaps would fail or get ripped out buy docks and that sucked. That cover also cost me $1500 10 years ago.

I get the snap issue. But arn't you talking about the whole boat ratcheting mooring cover. If it is still intact, why can't a shop use it as a pattern. I get the price issue, i am about as tight as they come. But if $1500 lasted at least 10 yrs, and $800 only lasts 3 yrs, the math for a custom cover is a lot cheaper than buying 3 factory/aftermarket covers over 10 years. But I guess it all depends on how long you keep your boat.

BTW. ALL (3) sunbrella covers bimini, bow and cockpit from scratch, with snap install, telescoping poles, boatvents and gaskets were $2500 Sept. '16. Install with zippers on bimini for the sun shades on both sides.

The $1500 wouldn't be too bad if they still have that price from 10 years ago. Also would prefer the ratchet instead of snaps. I was just checking here to see if someone has already had a factory clone made and what was the price.

I just purchased mine 3 weeks ago an oem cover from Surdyke Yamaha if you look them up I bought it for $360 and free shipping for my sx240 maybe that can hold you by for awhile better than spending $800 and better until you find something that you want that's going to last you a the time that you keep your boat.
