MR-1 Oil Drain Plug Location

This info is for a 2006 MR1 110 non—HO motor from an AR210. I believe the oil pump might be slightly different on the HO motors. I searched high and low for this information (here, google, shop manual, etc) without luck. I wanted to make a quick post on this topic to help others that may be looking for it. Back story: I have a blown MR1 motor that I’m in the middle of rebuilding (I’ve detailed some of that here) and I wanted to drain the oil pan as much as possible before taking it apart. Here’s what I learned:

The oil drain plug requires a 13mm socket, is located on the back of the motor, just to the port side and below the driveshaft coupler. Here it is (not labeled with a number) on the parts diagram:


I didn’t measure exactly how much drained out of the pan, I would estimate about a quart. Here it is as I am draining it:

I think it’s an m8 on my previous boat I used an M8 with barbed end hooked on some hose that had a 90‘ bend capped it and would use that to drain all the oil by inserting the vacum oil drain pump into the hose. The M8 with barb was difficult to find but I did souce one that had a good base so it would create a seal against the motor with a crush washer.

What is the oil capacity? what kind of oil did you use?

I’d estimate the total oil capacity at about 4quarts - I’ll be able to give a more precise measurement when I reassemble the motor here soon. Fwiw, for a traditional oil change I replaced about 2-3/4 quarts when just draining the upper oil reservoir. I use Yamalube 4W 10w40 motor oil.

Not the same as the HO engine. Mine is 12mm. Also, there should be a copper washer on the bolt. Sometimes it gets stuck on the engine and then falls down in to the bilge.
