ok after a run on salt or brackish its definte good idea to flush with hose water ... but nobody realizes that even fresh hose water could be corrosive as well .. im thinking of every flush doing it with salt away or using the dispenser cup with attachment to add some kind of protectant or even some dawn soap or something to protect the system ... thoughts ?

Try what I do I run in salt water and usually put over 800 hrs on my machines before selling them, Rinse with car wash soap that has the wax in it this shows you soap suds and when they stop you are finished, plus you leave a protective coating of wax on the inside of the water jackets etc. Works for me I squirt some in a pigtail I make then hook up the hose run the engine let the water run and when I am done shut off the water let the engine run another 30 seconds and then shut it off. Oh and I never rev the engine on the trailer I just let it idle 30 seconds with the water off , I also go through a warm up period each new day out so the engine runs slowly and gradually goes up in r p m like no wake mode for a few minutes before beating the hell out of it all day.

I am in the gulf of Mexico never used that just car wash soap . But I always blaze my own trails, it's paid off well for me so far

its prob a good idea ... i mean what else can you mix with water ? certanally not wd40( which would be the ultimate flush and protection ) ... maybe simple green ?...

I am a big believer in certain waxes they don't cause reactions and water won't wash it off.

We are going to wait until you have a bit more jet experience before we believe you.

I use Salt Off (West Marine's less expensive version of Salt Away). It does a couple of things: the mild acid solution removes salt from any surfaces chemically (FWIW - I also spray down the cockpit and hull with it using a hose end garden sprayer/mixer; it makes washing easier/faster), the soap in it helps flush out the cooling system better than just plain water and the acid and the soap probably reduce/inhibit any bio-growth in the system.

Is plain water enough - maybe. Is plain water and soap enough - probably. Is acid and soap better than just soap - IMO yes.

If I am wasting my money, it is the same as burning an extra 1/2 gallon of fuel per outing.

I've been using dawn dish soap from the day I bought it new in 2017. Just hit 207 hrs this weekend and I'm strictly in salt water. I also spray down the engine and nozzles with silicone spray. It runs like the day I bought it and it still looks new.

After an outing, I flush with just water for ten minutes at No-Wake rpm. The next day I start drying out the engine cooling system by running in No-Wake mode with no water for about 80 seconds. I do this dry running periodically to make sure the engine cooling system stays dry. This additional step is necessary because a lot of water remains in the water box even if you try to rev it out. This procedure prevents the engines from bio-fouling. I am only familiar with the MR-1 engine so I suggest caution on the dry run time for other engines.

Dawn soap through the engine?

i like the idea although a little more time consuming .. is salt away , then the zip wax car wash soap .... or even better a hose connection to hot/ warm water !

I have always used dawn dish soap , but the idea of car wash with wax does sound interesting

I’ve used them all (Dawn, salt away, zip wax). Although the car wash detergent I’ve only ever used when spraying down the boat, never run though the motor. Anyone know where a good reliable siphon hose mixer can be found? The one that comes with salt away is junk.

I have been using the same West Marine Salt Off mixer for more than 3.5 years without any problems. Occasionally, it will leak a little bit, but that can be cured by tightening the cup a little more.

Thanks! I’ll check that out. Mine is clearly designed to leak that precious product as opposed to running it through your motor. I kinda lost my cool last time I was flushing my motor
