Ok, so i guess i have hit my first snag with my install... I have no power at the head unit and when i turn the battery switch on now i heard feedback in the speakers...

I installed the Polk speakers last weekend and the Blue Seas battery switch and ACR (with 2nd battery). Everything was working fine with the stereo and speakers... I also changed oil and spark plugs today before the amp install and again everything was working fine...

So today i began the Clarion XC1410 amp install...

Here is what i did:
  • Ran power wire from house battery side of switch to the amp
  • Ran negative wire from negative bus bar to the amp
  • Connected RCA cables from head unit to amp (input)
  • Cut speaker wires after plug on head unit and wired them into the amp (white, Grey, Green, Purple both pos and neg) and wired into output side of amp... that then run to speakers
  • Wired Blue wire from head unit (after fuse) directly to blue wire on the output side of amp

The head unit does not turn on anymore when i turn the battery on... I obviously have wired something wrong today with the amp, but confused as to what...

Any ideas to help me fix this?

also when the battery switch is turned to on, the speakers will pop (for lack of better word) about every 5-10 seconds...

Wait.. you have RCA's installed to amp AND also the speaker wires to the pre amp inputs? If so, you probably aren't supposed to.
Second, if you did what you actually said and put the output of speaker wires from amp into the output side of the amp, then certainly don't do that!
If you have a head unit with RCA outputs, run them to the amplifier rca inputs. The speaker outputs of the head unit would only go to speakers, and therefore, the head unit has an amp in itself. If you are wiring up an amplifier, then it would be to power aftermarket extra speakers, such as tower speakers or subwoofers. If you are using the amp to provide cleaner power to the speakers then run the rca's to the amplifier and then the amplifier speaker wires to your speakers and leave the speaker wires coming out of the head unit unplugged or capped off. I wouldn't recommend this however, as it seems a waste.

If I read it though, it may be that you cut wires from your stock head unit and plugged into the amplifier outputs. But the way you stated it, it also has line level inputs?

Otherwise, it really seems like everything is just fine the way you did it!
No fuses blown anywhere?

Found issue. I cut the "wrong" black wire. I cut the ground. Not the negative to the speaker.

Oops.

Works now. Sounds great

Love it, lol.
Sometimes it's the "DOH!" moments that get us back and running!

Yeah, with no power to head unit i new it had to be something simple...either fuse or wired wrong...

Im glad i tested the speakers and stereo after the add-a-battery-kit and before the amp, so i didnt go ripping that all apart again.
