Hello to all. My name is Richard.

I picked up my boat the other day. It's a beauty. However, I am concerned that my wife will be upset about the sound level from the twin drives. It is on the loud side, but I was hot for the boat, and bought it anyway, because it's just beautiful..

I have read threads here about things that have been done to dampen the noise. My question is,has it been determined where most of the noise is coming from? I need to do a quick fix for now, before our first outing this weekend. I also ordered the Cobra Ultimate fins and Fangs..It has an older set on it now, but I want every advantage available.

Thank you

Richard

glad to have you on board, update your profile with your location and it will automatically add you to the map,

I would suggest not mentioning the sound and all and see if anyone complains about it, why put it in their head to begin with?

a quick fix would be to put a new bulb seal around the engine compartment cover, from there everything takes a little more time, insulating the deck floor, entire engine bay and recently a member filled his cleanout hatch/muffler area with deadening material with good results.

check out our FAQ section and do a few searches for lot's of info,

Thank you. Your advice is smart! I know my wife, after 25 years :-) I do want to make it quieter though. I ordered some 80 mil Dynamat, and the bulb seal.

Definitely pull the floor hatch up and insulate the bottom of it.
Congratulations on your purchase. We are here to help you enjoy your boat.

Those bolts wont come out for anything. Broke two bits, and that's with penetrating oil..

are you using the #4 Roberson bit?

many including mine came out with a white "locktite" like substance on them.

I found you just had to work them back and forth a 1/10 of a turn until they finally loosen,

I don't think penetrating oil will help at all,

Mine came out with my Milwaukee FUEL 18v impacter on high power pretty easily besides one stripped out that I easy outed. Be patient. What bit are you using.

I did complete my install on my engine hood, and compartment . I used both a 80 mil butyl mat and sound absorbing foam over it. .. upload_2016-6-22_21-47-32.png

I acoustic foamed the entire engine compartment, and sealed the inside of the rear side storage, and up the sides of the boat with 2 inch waffle foam, fully blocking any sound from entering the cabin from the hollow sides of the boat. However, the floor is obviously not done. I do not see why the floor panel would really make a huge difference, at this point. Am I wrong? I insulated the entire engine compartment, all four sides.

Try tapping the bolts with a hammer lightly and also try to tighten them also. Are you using an impact or just a socket wrench? The dead space under the floor echoes a lot. Run it and see if you feel the need to do it or wait till you open it for another reason.

I used a 3/8 impact gun. Snaped the bits.I will try working up and back, after I order some new bits. It's very hard to find them.

Pics? I redid my engine hatch and swim deck. Considering the walls but I'm pretty happy with what I have. I'm curious what it looks like fully insulated

@Rickala pm me a I can send you a stainless steel bit. I recommend using hex head after.
