New boat mods

I've bought a new 2013 AR240 which I'll take delivery of in May. I haven't owned a Yamaha jet boat before. I have read about mods on a couple of forums. Any suggestions on what might be some good mods to have the dealer do before I take possession of the boat? I've got fins already added and a new top. I've read about EZ locks and dual batts. I also read about a float switch bilge pump. My boat will not be trailered for any long distances. It will be on a fresh water lake and probably at a dock for a few days at a time but not much longer.

Im a fan of dual batteries for power AND safety. Safety so much I keep a third battery on the boat as well. LITERALLY I have used the third battery twice, FOR FRIENDS BOATS;-) The dual setup has been great while the boat was on the water away from all power for 8 days straight, I cant imagine I wouldn't have had an issue with one battery alone with how much engine off floating we do!

I agree on the dual batteries. I had my dealer do that on my new boat.

There are LOTS of other mods you can do, for safety, convenience and fun. But one of the things I liked about the Yamaha is that the boat comes basically complete and all he mods are probably more optional...

Thanks Dutch, I saw all that stuff. Some of it is probably in my future. I'm looking for stuff now that will save wear and tear on the boat or maybe items that should have been added to the boat by Yamaha but haven't. The trailer guides, and extra battery seem like good things right now. I haven't even stepped on a Yamaha jet boat yet, I never looked at one before I bought mine. I did a lot of research so I feel its a good boat. I've had Yamaha stuff in the past, snowmobiles, and loved them.

Keel Guard only if your going to beach your boat. Which I don’t recommend doing.

And why? It is a boat aka a depreciating asset. Get the keel guard, enjoy your boat!

With today's Yamaha boats I think you're really risking it if you beach it because the AK is not strong and has been proven it will snap like a twig when it comes to contact with the bottom. To each their own but I value my depreciating assets too much to needlessly depreciate it any quicker than need be. If given the chance of two equal boats a buyer would likely skip the one that's been beached vs one that hasn't all other things being equal. I know I would. Just my .02

I passed on buying a beached Yamaha boat that was a great deal BUT it was beached so I passed and bought the one I have now. We love it.

More bilge pumping power and bilge alarm and indicator if not already included. Knowing there is water intrusion before it's too late is the difference between a close call and a really really really bad day.

This mod is one I would start doing first.

In 5 to 10 years you will be thanking me for suggesting using this twice every season on your upholstery.

Buy and Anchor Buddy (big bungy cord) to attach in parallel to your anchor line and a Sand Spike shore anchor.
Drop your anchor just off the beach, then back into the shallow water. Everybody piles onto the beach, and then you let your Sand Spike archor line out as the Anchor Buddy pulls your boat into deeper water. Plant the Sand Spike on the beach. Your boat is also protected against wakes. When your are ready to depart, pull the boat back in.

The system works great especially in salt water with tides (8ft tides here in Savannah).
