For me it was the reliability and less maintenance. Not that a small block chevy is unreliable, but when you combine it with an outdrive it gets to be a lot. Since I do most of my own maintenance the outdrive bellows, oil, dog clutch, shift mechanism adjustments, geeze. Then my boat sits for a few weeks at a time so I never wanted to leave water sitting in the exhaust manifolds when stowed, so I would drain them before leaving the boat. No big deal, but come on man. Its hot outside, the water in the system is hot, you have to get down in the engine compartment like a contortionist.

With the jet boat, no outdrive, no outdrive maintenance, no worrying about the outdrive being in the right position when backing down the ramp or retrieving. As far as water in the exhaust manifolds, you pull the boat, start the engine for a few seconds and you are done.

I'm getting older, my time with the boat and family are precious. I don't want to waste it.

For me I liked having two engines for emergencies. Also the swim platform. Big on my list was no propellers and no outboard since I spend most of the time with kids on board doing watersports or swimming off the back. Ease of maintenance is very nice.

For me it was a few things
1. The Yamaha reliability.
2. The Multipurpose layout. Lounging, watersports, fishing, etc. The family loves the stern layout.
3. Value proposition. The AR 250 was significantly cheaper that most other 25 footers
4. Safety around the back of the boat
5. Lower maintenance vs stern drive.
