New-to-me '20 212X. When I run the engines on a hose for cooling, there's no water out the pissers, just from the jets. When I'm on the water, even on idle there's a steady flow (at least when hot... not sure I've ever look when it's cold).

Is it normal? Can I trust that cooling is functioning if I don't see water out the pissers? Does it only happen past a certain temperature threshold? It does seem to defeat the (alternative) purpose of "flushing" the cool system if nothing else(?).

BTW, silly that this fancy electronic dashboard doesn't have any way to display temp gauges, as far as I can see.

Thanks!

As for flushing, from what I have read and experienced it depends on your water pressure and also how level your boat is. For example, on my wave runner with the same 1.8L engine, if I pull to far up the incline in my drive way, I see a weak trickle, if I back in or am on a flatter section, I have much better flow. If I try to flush with the salt away mixer, there is a reduction in water flow, so I start with fresh water, and use a quick connect to quickly add the mixer for the last minute of my flush.

The way the system is designed, much of the water when flushing ends up coming back out the pump/nozzle where the intake screen is.

Since you don’t have an issue when at idle on the water, all is well!

Does it come out the exhaust also or just the jet

I want to say yes, but didn't look very closely, honestly. I ran them for a while on the hose today without issues, so I think the engines are getting cooled.

Pretty normal. I got more flow after upgrading the flush ports and making sure my hose shutoffs were bigger diameter fittings. It can start/increase after running a while after filling up the lines and also if you slightly rev the engine (makes sure you don’t have a blockage).

I had this concern when warming up for an oil change this last weekend. I didn't trust the engine would be cooling until the water came out the pisser. I had to open the hose fully. A lot more flow and pressure than just what would come out the pisser.

just figured it out... on one of those "shrinkable" hose, zero water. on 5/8" garden hose, full blast.

size matters :)
