So pulling the boat out after a couple hours on the lake I start and idle the engine 10 seconds, give a couple revs and shut it off. 4 days later in the garage I fire it up and get a good 3-4 cups of water coming out the grate. I guess I didnt get all the water out, is that normal? The over night temps here have been high teens, low 20s. Just want to make sure I'm doing this right.
Thanks

There is always water in the muffler and when you run the engine it blows some out with the exhaust and backward through the pump so start it, let it run 30 seconds shut it off and do it again a bit later you should be fine

I always forget and experience the same thing with my Chaparral, muffler and possibly catalyst hold water.

Is 30 seconds safe without water? I get kind of concerned past about seven. Maybe 30 is okay.(?)

I always run 20-30 secs and have never had a problem. Same thing with my Sea-Doo Sportster which I’ve have for over a decade.

Good to know. Thanks! That gives me some much needed flexibility now.

30 at an idle do not rev the engine just let it idle. revving out of the water on a 4 stroke engine with 5 valves per cylinder is probably asking for trouble.

If you get a chance, look at your water box. Water will stay there but only in the bottom of a large cylinder, which will not be harmed when water goes solid. The water from the engine drains there. It is chilly down here in SC. I had the boat out two weekends ago and just dry fired to spit a bit more out. No harm. It takes a while for the engine to “over temp” without water if it is cold to start. Slow delta T is preferred of course.
