lol Thanks. Just answering the stuff I had to find out the hard way. And yes, the forum has been invaluable to me as well. Hence why I participate a lot.
What a great thread, and timeless info. I recently picked up a 2015, 195HO. Engine only had 75 hours on it, but being 10 years old with no service history, I want to do the basics. Oil Change, check plugs (change if needed) test coolant and lube/clean where necessary.
I watched the video on how to remove the jet pump to inspect those areas, very helpful. What I am struggling to find is a link to the oil change kit for this specific engine. (440000AAA) Most links take me to a site with multiple options and that's where I am afraid i'll order the wrong one.
I am not experiencing any engine issues, and I may be changing relatively 'new' oil, but without any maintenance history, better to be safe than sorry. Any advice on areas I would need to lube? I do plan on spraying the entire engine with XPS anti corrosion lube. (would i need to spray the exterior jet pump areas, or would that just wash off?)
Yeah, definitely change the oil in your case. Your boat is using a "1500cc" engine. All the 150, 200 and 250 engines use the same oil change kit. The newer 170, 230 and 300 use a different kit. So you're looking for the XPS oil change kit for 1500 engines. Get the proper kit. It will come with an oil filter, two replacement o rings and 3.25 quarts of oil. Your reminding me of another sticky thread I wanted to make. How to change your oil... I may write that later tonight. Watch for it.
Note that there are TWO types of oil accepted. The older kits came with a synthetic BLEND kit.
BOTH kits work just fine and are both approved. You may not be able to find the blend anymore since it's being discontinued. Manuals all say to only use the blend, but that is no longer the case. Just older instructions. Also, those are Canadian links... Eh? Sorry.
As for lube, XPS corrosion spray is pretty good stuff to use. Goes on clean and doesn't leave that annoying film you see with fluid film. I prefer it because of that. In short, spray everything! Lol Definitely a bunch may wash off, but it won't hurt to get it in the hinges/joints.
The other thing to consider your pump. I'd seriously consider inspecting your pump nose grease and or replacing it. Make sure the pump is in good shape, again since you have no history. Good maintenance to learn. That's another sticky thread to do. Lol
Thanks for the updated links, gives me more confidence! Hoping to be able to just grease the jet pump, but will replace if it is actually bad. I googled "jet pump grease", any suggestions? I see an XPS Jet Pump Grease (9779703)
I just wrote the oil change instructions. Look at the top of the sticky posts to find it.
Frankly, any gear oil like Royal Purple will work. But if you can easily get the XPS stuff, I'd just go with that. There are two of rings inside the nose cone. I'd suggest asking for spares if you go to the dealer while you're there. When you check the grease, pull them out carefully and inspect them for cracking or nicks. If so, replace them. If not, you're good to go.
Don't overfill. 24 ml (or whatever that is in American units ). Essentially, up to the second o ring, no more. Otherwise pressure will be high when you try and reinstall the nose cone. I'm planning on putting some instructions for this later after dinner. Watch for that too. I've been trying to tackle all the common questions and now some of the common maintenance questions. This is one of them.
