Possible DYI Rooster Tail Shooter for Yamaha Jet Boats

This is an offshoot from the thread below but in brief I may have an inexpensive way to add a rooster tail mod to Yamaha jet boats.

The first set of pics is of the visibility spout (rooster tail) system of my 2006 fx waverunner. Basically a hose running out of the base of the stationary thrust nozzle up to and through the aft deck.

The second set of pics are of the pump and nozzles on my 2010 242. The thrust nozzle has a protrusion for what could be an exit port but it’s not drilled out (through).

The third set of pics are of a spare steering assembly from a different 2006 fx waverunner. Note that the rooster tail port is a longer than the one on the boat and is drilled through.

I may be wrong but I think Jet Boat Pilot’s pending rooster tail device will only be compatible with boats with an articulating keel since it looks like it bolts directly to the rudder.

My proposed DYI alternative for all Yamaha jet boats, with and without an articulating keel is to drill out the nipple on the boat’s nozzle or nozzles, attach a hose to it with a clamp and run the other end of the hose to another clamp on an adjustable mount under the swim deck or on top of the reverse gate. Also add an inline valve as high as possible on the hose for ease of accessibility/use. Finally, add some fittings to the end to shape the output stream.

I may use my spare nozzle on version one, so no drilling required.

Performance considerations:
Unlike the only other rooster shooter devices I’ve seen this will divert water before it makes it into the main water jet stream so I assume I’m losing thrust but no more than I would on a waverunner on which the system is stock. As for the stream created, it won’t be as big as a that created by a wedge like jet boat pilot’s device but should be able to create at least the same stream as a waverunner (two if I do it to both nozzles) and which may be “tunable” within reason for a few bucks in parts from my local hardware store.

I’d like to work on this soon but realize this may be a new next season mod.

Thoughts?

PS: I know it’s a potentially dangerous question to ask and that other than improved but unnecessary visibility of the boat it or these are installed on there is no practical purpose for such a mod but I can say the same thing about a few mods already (but I won’t).

Not knocking this but........ why? Is this something that people want/do? Just curious is all.

My take: To create a rooster tail for improved visibility, to deter jetskiiers from following or passing to close, to torment people who are doing water sports behind your boat, because you like the look and/or rainbows it creates, like the attention or just to see /prove you can. Take your pick.

Keep in mind that my proposed system is just a different way to achieve a result similar to that of jet boat pilot’s pending rooster shooter device, not as elegant but for a tenth of the cost and it should work on boats without articulating keels or rudders.

So hook the wash down hose directly from the pump nozzle to a garden hose jet nozzle, and zip tie to the ladder facing up. Simple on the FSH.
