Is it normal? I used the boat for about 6 hours. No water in the engine compartment. Should I worry about it?
Does bilge pump remove water just from the engine compartment only? or underneath too? Thanks

That's a lot of water! Have you tested bilge pump to ensure it is operating. What is the status of your scupper I see it is a plastic one still. Is your plug inthe ski locker as water will enter that as well if not plugged. It shouldn't take but a few gallons to activate bilge pump. I would plug and incline on trailer add water and see if the pump turns on at all. Or pull it off the mount(two plastic clips) and turn on it should spin when activated.

16 gallons seems like more than you should have,

The scupper (the upper plastic fitting) drains the above deck area.
The garboard (the lower metal fittings) drains the underneath and what the bilge doesn't pump.

Do you boat with the bilge pump on?
do you ever see the bilge pump working?
Have you ever seen the bilge pump work?

My boat will often have a few minutes of water come out the back after a day on the water and other times it can be dry. It's hard to find a leak as it can be anything from
a bad seal on your garboard drain plug,
your scupper may be cracked,
a bad seal on your cleanout tray
a bad seal on a rub rail
did you take a lot of wave on the bow? sometimes water can go up your anchor locker drain and if that area isn't sealed well it makes it way back,

I would suggest next time opening the engine hatch while on the water every 30 minutes to see if anything is showing up,
You can also open you cleanout hatch access holes to see what it looks like (but probably won't see much unless you actually remove the entire hatch)

You could jack up the front end and stick a hose in and see if any water leaks out.

I would strongly suggest you change your plastic scupper to a metal one because many have found them cracked and if they fail you've got a hole in your boat below the waterline,

Also while it is plugged checked around the drain plug and scupper for water dripping out of the boat. Is be suspect of the scupper. Also was the water lake temperature or hot? If hot is a leak from engine side cooling lines.

My bet is Scupper. Always good insurance on a 230 to replace with metal one

Thanks.
I got metal scupper. I just need to install it. It is my next project.
Bilge pump was on for about 15 minutes.

changing the scupper will get you a lot more familiar with your boat and how the water drains,

absolutely make sure your bilge is working, and I would suggest if you have the boat in the water have the bilge pump on, it's cheap insurance,

I added the second bilge as I was doing my scupper. I do a lot of ocean boating so it's piece of mind for me to have 2 pumps.

I just found the problem.... broken scupper! Previous owner tried to fix it with silicone. I can see a lot of silicone inside.
Now I know what I will be doing this Friday!!! Plus installing transducer.

Well I'm glad you got it figured out. Good luck changing it out. I have been putting it off too.

Old Mother Yamaha puts a lot of silicone inside as well. PS be careful if you remove top hose for scupper as I broke my floor scupper as well. I removed to install hose on SS scupper outside the boat so you have more room to work on it and I put some 4200 on SS scupper barbs. Did you sign up for a wrench also makes it a lot easier. Good luck it isn' that bad.

Stainless steel scupper installed.
Old plastic scupper is cracked on both sides.

Would 16 gallons of water leak through it?

I think it would for sure. Please wait for 5200 to dry then put plug in and fill to leak check scupper install. Also can op check bilge pump after leak check.

Yep, in a heart beat. That scupper has nearly sunk a few boats according to some of our members.

Look at all of your exhaust hose clamps while you are down there. You might find rusted off or weak clamps.

Leak check? Fill your bilge with water and see if it drips on the outside of the hull.

As @Murf'n'surf said wait whatever cure time is on the package and then put the drain plug in and fill with water till it is above the scupper and then wait and see if water comes out. Just lets ya know all is good with the install.

Fast cure should be 24 hours I believe.
