I just caught the thread title and wanted to put this little nugget of info in here for anybody who needs to separate anything bonded with 3m5200 or caulking. Often 5200 will pull the gel off when separating something that's bonded with 5200. Fear not! This stuff is worth every penny! I just used it removing a chain guide from a flat gel coated surface. It was about 2 square feet of stainless bonded to fiberglass with 5200. A bunch of this solvent and a little prying it came off with no damage to the gel coat.

This thread saved me a ton of time and aggravation. I used the Kobalt Xtreme Access pass through 7/8” socket with 2 - 3” extensions to get the exterior nut off. Cable was stuck as others have described so once I got all of the silicon off the inside of the thru-hull, I sprayed both inside and outside with WD 40 (I didn’t have PB Blaster) put the nut back on the outside of cable a couple of turns. Put the socket and extensions back on (actually had to use a 3rd extension). A few solid whacks with the hammer and she was free. I was then able to pull it through from inside the hull.

If you ever need to remove 5200, or the beige/gray Yamaha glue, use a heat gun. It will soften right up and allow removal.

Also, if you know the nut size, you can get individual GearWrench pass-thru sockets on Amazon. Grab it with a pair of large pliers.

I spent 2 hours trying to hammer the cable through without it budging one bit... the easiest part was the bolt removed with the o2 sensor socket. that was genius. but the advice from here worked so well i had to jump on and echo what people said. what I did was sprayed WD40, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. put the nut back on and slid a 3/4 electrical metal conduit on and hammered it a few times. it literally popped in right away. both cables within minutes.

I find it hard to visualize something if I haven't done it yet. so here's a picture i drew in paint.
