Hey guys. I have had my decals on the black gelcoat removed now for a number of years. I should have posted this back when i 1st removed them. But last weekend i started buffing the boat for the nee season. I used 3m compound with a wool pad and a dewalt buffer followed by 3m finesse it and a foam pad. For the life of me i cannot get the small ridges from the outline of the decals to come off. Paint is buffed but the ridges are still there and the outline of the decals can be seen in the correct lighting. Can feel the slight ridges as well. I am not sure if this is from wax buildup when the decals were still on or what. I am thinking i might need to wet sand it to remove them.

Any help/ideas? I will be working on it again this weekend.

Thanks

If the compound and the wool pad didn't cut it, it sounds like wet sanding would be the next option. Unfortunately after you wet sand you are going to have to rebuff and polish.

Before you do that, have you tried nail polish remover? if it is buildup of some sort, that may strip it away. Then all you'd need to do is wax it.

Thanks but the nail polish remover didnt do it. I wet sanded a spot and it looks to have removed it. I hate that i am going to have to that though.
