Sailrite Ultrafeed model LSZ-1 Premium and Juki 1541S

The next project for the Machine is a small sail that attaches to the back stay, the cable from the top of the mast to the transom, to use while we are at anchor. This sail will prevent the swing we all see at anchor, and we put out alot of rode to maintain a decent scope on the Beneteau as we are in 15-20' of water. I know just use a stern anchor. But sometimes deploying two anchors is a P.I.T.A. especially on retrieval. This sail takes seconds. The red sail below is one.

So, Willow bought the kit from Sailrite - Fabric, Canvas, and Sewing Machines Since 1969 and put it together today. It came out nice, and got to use the hot knife and zigzag. Here are some pics.

We are planning on adding the Beneteau Seahorse Insignia in blue to the sail using adhesive backed vinyl we will trace out and cut by hand.Sailrite - Fabric, Canvas, and Sewing Machines Since 1969

Willow ordered the Workhorse 3/4hp servo/stepper motor for the Sailrite LSV-1. Took off the Monster Wheel and put on the new motor today. Its a beast. Stitch by stitch or super fast with the new treddle.

It's been a while but the projects keep comming. She has made new cushions for the deck furniture from Sunbrella.

Covers for the TV and winches on the boat as well as this cover for the Helm. Its great having a cover to keep the sun, rain and bird shit off.
Without the cover...

The Sunbrella is still a little stiff here, and not quite positioned correctly, angles and curves all over the top of this, Zippers on both sides. She is measuring the hem on the bottom and pocket for the cynch line and reinforcing patches. She calls it "a sack of potatas". I love it for it's functionality. Considering putting a small screen vent on the forward panel to let out heat.

Both the quantity and quality of work coming out of your household is damn impressive!

Thank You Sir. What's the old saying? "Idle hands are the Devils tools". We love improving our boating experience thru mods and upgrades done DIY, when we can. Just as long as we don't step uncomfortably out side of our skill sets.

That's the old yankee know how coming out of Vermont.

I grew up and live in Vermont but this old yankee's family tree roots are planted firmly in Centerville, Phinney's Lane to be precise. The cemetary on the hill has many of us planted there. Cape Cod potato chips has a map on the bag showing Phinney's Lane and Willow St. Willow, my wife just shakes her head every time I remind her of that. Her family, Parker's also came from the Cape before her ancestor jumped ship for a Hawaiian girl, the King's grandaughter, and started Parker Ranch on the big island.

Here is an old family pic. The first Post Office on Cape Cod c.1834, not sure when photo was taken. I believe this was in Osterville or Hyannis I am told.

Fender covers, round 2.

The red ones Willow made from the Blizzard fleece did not hold up well. 20190729_065042.jpg We found the material too thin to hold up to rubbing against the dock and the red dye had started to transfer to the hull. So we took them off and searched for another material that would be more rugged. Many people on a forum she is on, "Sewing on Boats", suggested to use a Sailrite product called Boat Blanket. Sailrite - Fabric, Canvas, and Sewing Machines Since 1969 It is a much heavier material we chose the Navy Blue this time. We like these much better and now the fenders do not squeek against the hull.

I think they work great and also look great.

Another project done just in time to enjoy the concert on the waterfront. Kickin back, enjoying the tunes, friends and of course an Ale.

How about building a new bimini top for a fellow New Englander

How about building a new bimini top for a fellow New Englander

I asked her and she said she was not experienced enough yet to do bimini tops. That is why we hired ours out to a professional. She has a long list of projects like a bow sun pad and cockpit cushions, cabin cushions etc. Perhaps once she makes all these and gains more confidence/experience she could take in small jobs. I am sure there are reasonably priced canvas shops in your area that could whip it out in no time.

Test fitting a new battened mainsail Willow made on the LSV-1 that will be the new sail for an old 1976 O'Day Javelin, project boat, that we picked up for cheap late in September that the P.O.'s were going to try to tow back to Long Island from here. Trailer had not been registered in 10 years. The sail that came with the boat was not made for this boat and did not fit well. She ordered a sail kit from Sailrite Sailrite - Fabric, Canvas, and Sewing Machines Since 1969. Just waiting on a #4 grommet tool and the sail will be done.

A new shorter shackle to replace the caribiner and the halyard will pull the sail all the way up to the masthead. She did a great job making this Dacron sail.

She's a keeper, nice work throughout ....

A lot has transpired in the last 2 years since the last post. She still has the LSZ-1. She added an industrial Juki to the sweat shop and turned out some really nice stuff.

A few of her recent projects.

A new dinghy cover.

Redesigning and fabricating new cabin cushions. Changes the interior for the better.

She recently returned from a bimini enclosure course in Mass. These are her isinglass panels she made zippered to 1/4 of the bimini. They (4) students make one bimini to attach their side panels to. At the end of the course the instructor cuts the newly made bimini into quarters so the students can attach their enclosure panels at home after the class. A couple of shots of her work she brought home of how they do it.

Yes, there is isinglass sewn into the sunbrella, hard to make it out.

Hidden zippers attach to bimini and to each other. Some of the chalk lines have not been cleaned off yet.

Did you keep ar230 template? I would have gladly paid for a premium cover

Not for the mooring cover, but we do have our original grey bimini and boot over in the shop. She was taught to measure and pattern from the boat or frame. She would not pattern from an old cover that may have stretched. We changed our covers to orange sunbrella, which they do not sell anymore. Been thinking about selling the bimini/boot.
