Is anyone using the marinetech king pin anchor bow mount on their swim platform? I like the idea of the removable mount when not in use.

@Maillis this is an interesting find. Agree on the removable bracket, since in my case would get infrequent use. This idea came from another member and I am ready to go when the weather breaks:

This is interesting, but I’d be concerned about the durability of a pvc solution. You typically use this sort of anchor solution in calmer waters, but you never know when someone wake may toss you around and put additional stress on everything.

Yep my worry as well. My primary use is to complement the shore spike. I have an interesting time when the beaching location we hang at gets crowded. Trying to pull up tbe shore spike, run to the stern with 150’ of line, while the boat floats/drifts to neighboring boats and deeper waters. I will also use it for occasional shallow water fishing, where durability is less of an issue. $5 for the PVC thingy ... throw away if it doesn’t work. I plan on only using it with other primary anchoring methods.

Have you considered those things that attach to a cleat ... thinking this is my next move if this PVC thingy fails.

The rope loop tied off to a cleat and then around the pole? Yeah I may start there. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best, but I saw this mount and the wheels started turning.

I agree.
However, the pvc mount would actually serve as the weak link (a sacrificial part).
With the SS mount - one could potentially risk ripping a chunk of fiberglass off of the swim deck (yes, a catastrophic scenario - but may not be so far fetched - even a wake of a passing boat could possibly cause enough commotion...)

Hopefully the deck on the swim platform is on the thicker side and can support it. I’m thinking the pin would just pull out or there would be enough flex in the fibreglass pole that it would bounce around but not cause any damage to the boat in the case of rough seas or a big wake. Maybe if you try to take off with the pin firmly planted that could be a problem.

I'm missing the purpose of these things? When I anchor (either out the front with the box) or the stern (to the shore spike), I just tie the corresponding line to either a bar or stern cleat. When pulling up to a buoy, if it has a clip on it, then I clip to the bow eye. If there's no clip, then we run double-run an dock line from cleat through he buoy loop to a cleat (we don't get enough chafe in the hour or two we were there for lunch).

The anchor pin is a quicker albeit less secure way to anchor. Handy for fishing in shallows or to keep your boat from swinging around when anchored off a beach.

There are permanent brackets available which work quite well. But for people wanting to try out the idea without drilling holes there are some temporary solutions to attach to a cleat or bow eye.

Or you could just tie a line to it.
