Curious - How does a dealer do it and what purpose does it serve?
I see some boats shirk wrapped for winter storage. Is it to keep out moisture or does it provide an additional benefit that the typical boat cover doesn't? Just curious.
Also how much does it cost?

Shrink wrapping your boat for the Winter will keep water/snow out of the boat. Shrink wrapping forms a tight cover that will not flog in high winds. Flapping tarps shred and the grommets can damage gelcoat. Moisture is still present, but a couple tubs of DampRid left in the boat will help with that. The shrink wrap is applied over some kind of frame, 2x4 usually. The frame is built so when the shrink wrap is installed, the sides are at a steep angle to shed snow. Do not let snow sit on the towing/mooring or any other low profile cover. It will stretch. I keep our Yamaha inside during Winter. However the Beneteau has been shrinkwrapped. It make a nice area to work on the boat if you need to out of the elements.

You can find cheaper, these guys are expensive for what they installed for us last year. Not even close to the cover above installed by someone else, the year before.

It's to keep the boat protected while outside in the elements.

I had mine shrink wrapped last year to store outside but this year we won't need to do it since we have indoor storage.

Be sure they install vents in the shrink wrap and install damprid throughout.

Cost was a could hundred bucks IIRC.

If you live anywhere with snow and plan on leaving outside shrink wrapping is a must. The steep angle and smooth surface of a property shrunk wrapped boat will allow the snow to slide off. If you don’t the snow will build up and can break your windshield. In NH the cost is between $11-20 a foot.
