Does anyone have a sleep number bed and love it? Just bought one tonight and I need reassurance from someone that owns one! I thought it was absolutely amazing and loved the option of different firmness on each side as well as the fact it's a component system so in 10 years if something goes wrong you can replace just that piece. My mattress now is 6 years old and has really fallen apart, can't replace just one piece.

I have one, been using it for 5 years and so far no problems. We still like it a lot, the wife changes her number all the time my number has always been the same. About 2 years ago we add 4" of memory foam on top of the sleep number, something the wife wanted. If this one wears out I will probably get another.

I used one in a hotel years ago (king size), like almost 10 yrs now... My two complaints with the one I tried was the divider in the middle between the 2 sides was kind of a nuisance if you had a somewhat lower number set, kind of like a speed bump in the middle of the bed. And the pump/compressor/whatever to raise the number (make it more firm) was kinda loud especially for middle of the night 'pumping up'.

I'm guessing some of those things are different with the newer models. I have friends that have a new one and love it, but I have never been invited to try that bed out (yet).

P.S. I swear there is no innuendo in that review, just telling it like it was... :winkingthumbsup"

We decided on the M9 which has 5" of memory foam, and the mattress is split about 1/3 at the head. This way my wife and I can raise our heads independently, but to raise our feet they will be raised for both. I think I would have preferred separate mattresses, but the boys occasionally come into our room at night if they aren't feeling well or if a severe thunderstorm comes through and the split down the middle would have been uncomfortable.

The only downside so far, is it takes two weeks or so to arrive, and with the 1/3 split, we had to get special sheets...

We purchased an i3 about 4 years ago and added 3.5 inches of memory foam to it. We were coming from a mattress that had failing springs and was killing my back, so at first the sleep number was a God send. I was sleeping great with a setting of 90. Over the course of the next year and a half, I gradually lowered to between 35 and 50. However during that time I often felt tired when I woke up but at least my back wasn't hurting. After sleeping on my kids new mattress for a few nights and waking up refreshed I knew the sleep number bed had to go. My wife was OK either way, but agreed with me. Her number from the start was around 30. These are my thoughts as to what was happening. We purchased a Queen and the air mattresses in it are not very wide. My wife gravitates to the center of the bed most nights and that pushes me closer to the edge. Not being centered on the air mattress was likely the source of my restlessness. If we could have gotten a king my story might be different. In the end we sold the sleep number on Craigslist and purchased a top of the line coil mattress from a local mattress maker (he makes the mattresses in his store). We got the equivalent of a high end Stearns and Foster for a third of the price. Now I wake up refreshed most mornings. I think I might be fighting a little sleep apnea but for now I'm content. Sleep number offers a good return policy, I wish we would have used it.

I know it's too late in your case but medical professionals used to get a 20 percent discount. My wife is a nurse.

We have had ours for about 3 or 4 years now and we love it. We like that it is adjustable so it can change if/when we do. My only regret is not getting a higher model. Mine measures pressure in 5 lb increments and is loud when inflating, the newer ones measure by the lb and are quiet. These are minor nits since we set the pressure according to how we feel not by the gauge and we rarely change our setting anyway. Unless something better comes along, we probably won't be reverting back to a standard mattress or even an all foam one ever. If our sleep number bed broke tomorrow we would order a new (probably better one) immediately.

I would agree the middle of our sleep number is the major draw back. I was definitely an upgrade from out 7 year old mattress from Sams but we are in the market for something new

@cane.mba I have a king sized sleep number in a guest bedroom. We bought it, returned it at the end of the sleep trial, and then reordered thinking we didn't give it a good chance. In discussing this with their rep, the recommended the memory foam upgrade. So it also has 3" of memory foam on top. It just didn't cut it, we continued to wake up during the night with pressure point issues if it was set firm enough to give good back support, or wake up with aching backs if we set it soft enough to mitigate contact pressure point discomfort. After a year of suffering, I found a counterfeit Temperpedic company and ordered a memory foam bed. We have slept like kings ever since. Ours is probably 7 years old now and the company we bought it from is long since out of business (sued by Temperpedic). And should I ever need another, I will pay the piper and get a temperpedic. Best money I ever spent. A word on them however, some say they are hot. They don't increase or hold heat, but they don't dissipate it either, so not using mattress pads (because body heat activates the memory foam) and more radiated body heat, will equate to being warmer without needing as much cover on you. This is all personal preference and everyone is different. For us, the sleep number bed was not a player, and when I am in a hotel with one, I have a lousy nights sleep. Your mileage may vary...

Thanks for all of the input! We did select the King, the honeymoon is over after 12 years and the snuggling in the middle of the night is long gone. We did try about 10 different Temperpedic options and the Deluxe Cloud was ok for me but way to soft for my wife. The only option for us in a king was two twins, and I really disliked the split in the middle of the mattresses.

On the Sleep Number only the top 1/3 was split so that we can raise our heads independently, and the rest of the mattress was one piece. I didn't notice a void in the middle do to lack of air bladder, but maybe the memory foam helps. I can see with my wife being around 80 and my side being 35 how it would feel uphill or downhill, but honestly our innerspring mattress is so horrible it's like that now.

The Temperpedic sales person actually convinced me on the Sleep Number in two ways. First, she said the components were expensive to replace, however, that made me realize if we had an issue with the foam, the cover, and bladder, etc., we could replace that component and have a like new bed again, vs shelling out for a complete replacement. Second was she said you would constantly fidget with the number as your daily activity level changed, instead of having one set experience. Well after two total knee replacements at 44, and several shoulder surgeries, I think being able to adjust the bed as I age (or spend 5 days over Memorial Day weekend shoveling 6,000lbs of pea gravel, 40 8' landscape timbers and building stairs with 8 - 8' 6x6") I might want more or less support.

At this point I think a bed of nails would be better than what we have, I just hope long term this was a smart decision. I researched reviews on the internet and they seem to echo the comments here 50/50, love it or hate it.... I sure hope I'm in the love it long term category!

We have a queen sleep number in a guest room. The center of it is the real issue with ours. It was an earlier one without the memory foam. We now sleep on a tempurpedic, however being a stomach sleeper, it took me a while to adjust to it and it is hard to be close to your significant other if you move after the memory foam conforms for a while. I may be trying the new Costco mattress every 3-5 years thing next time.

We love ours. We got the "craftmatic" version that vibrates and allows you to move your feet up and head up.

We got a king and my only regret is not getting a queen as the king is just two twins or whatever (the queen was one mattress). My wife like a hard (lol) mattress, and I like it soft. Because of this, and the two mattress, it creates what the kids call "the hole"' where things like the remote get lost in.

We have had it for 9 plus years now, so maybe they fixed that aspect by now.

@billyb we have the new version that's split at the head so we can raise the up heads independently, but the rest of the mattress is one piece, so to raise our feet, it raises the entire foot of the mattress.

Westin Heavenly Bed! It's the best mattress I have ever slept on, so we bought it for the house!!!!!

I have to agree, that Westin Bed is NICE! I also like Marriott's bed. If it would only stay that nice without flipping or sagging...does it?

Supposed to. Comes with a 10 year no sag warranty. If course your supposed to switch out every 7. We kept our other mattress way too long. I agree on changing every 7 years. It's a good investment in health!!

One of the better things of the Temperpedic style mattresses is not having to change near as often, no sag, and no flipping. Ours is as good as the day we bought it, but I can see a day that we will want a new one. Bed bugs and the other virus born stuff doesn't seem to be a problem in that foam.

Wish I could help here.... I sleep on a 30 yr old king waterbed! Great in the winter with the heater.... Slept in hundreds of hotel beds too and the only problem I ever had was in a Marriott Garden Inn when our regular hotel was full. Felt like it was 3" of foam on a cement block, actually it was 4"....

I have been known to sleep standing up in airports waiting for Mx issues and so forth.... Best bed ever was at The Cliffs Hotel in SBP, pillow topped and feather comforter equipped....

Do need to finally grow up and get a big kid bed soon though...... =)

Sorry...I have had horrible experiences with the sleep number. I think I have tried every setting and never found anything without waking up with back issues. Have a foam bed now that has a shredded foam topper built in. Love it. Sorry I couldn't recommend the sleep number.

Ha ha... @Magic , I had a waterbed until I divorced...uh, 25 years ago. Lost it in the divorce, and finding another one proved to be a chore, so I switched to a queen Beauty Rest World Class. It was a great bed...until I had to store it for a few months...and all those individually pocketed springs drifted and ruined the bed. After that, I bought a couple of seconds, all Beauty Rest World Class. But age seemed to keep me off the inner spring band wagon as it just caused pressure point issues, although the back issues were non existent on it.
