I would just stay away from the boat. If you have any concerns and they come to fruition you will be hating your self for a long time. Just find another one.
The guy wasn't too keen on anyone who wasn't a certified marine mechanic doing anything with the engine (compression test, removing spark plugs, etc.) so right now my buddy is going to keep looking for other boats - I think I did convince him that the Yamaha brand is the way to go though . Thanks everyone for the input and advice!
