Should change this forum to NC and SC. Still live in Cary but bought a house on Lake Murray and just had my boat lift installed! Wiring will be finished in a couple weeks. Can't wait for that.

I know a couple folks on here live around Lake Murray. If anyone is ever down that way, let me know.

Looks really nice!!! I bet you can't wait for summer! Congrats!

That’s awesome! My oldest daughter, wife and I went and checked out lake Murray for the first time a couple weeks while visiting U of S.C. for an admitted students day. We were really impressed with the area. My daughter will be attending school down there starting this fall and we are definitely planning on getting some boating in when we are down there. I honestly think I’d like to move there. Homes on the lake are very reasonable and the pace of life is so much better then up here in the Baltimore/DC area.

Congrats on the house. I really hope you love it! 🍻

My son is wrapping up his 1st year at USC and that's a big part of why we picked Lake Murray in the first place. We talked about Gaston, Smith Mountain Lake, Norman, Keowee, and Hartwell. We eliminated Gaston and Smith Mtn because we wanted to go south. Keowee and Hartwell are an extra hour plus away.... We thought long and hard about Norman, especially since my wife goes there for work at least a couple times a month.

We found a 2 year old house that we loved, and after seeing it in person that sealed the deal. I've got a 14 year old at home so I'm staying in my current house until he's off to college. After that, who knows where I'll move officially..... but I'll definitely spend more time at the lake!

We are in a very similar position. Over the last few months as my daughter was narrowing down her college choices and U of S.C. seemed like it was going to be her choice I started getting very interested in Lake Murray. We had originally wanted to get a place on Deep Creek lake in western MD due to it being a great year round destination with having a ski slope right next to it but the problem is it’s such a small lake at 3,900 acres vs. Murray at 50,000ish acres buying a place there is just ridiculously overpriced. Once we started seeing how affordable Lake Murray is the interest level has shot through the roof!

We also have a 14 year old daughter that will graduate high school in 2028. We are looking to sell our house up here over the next couple years, rent a place until she’s done high school and hopefully in the mean time buy a place done there and then move there full time in 2029.

How has your son liked his first year at U of S.C.?

How do they get those posts in - twist or pound or? Also, is it square or just "square enough?"

Can you build a roof/cover for the lift?
Dominion SC controls the lake and they do not allow boat houses, roofs, or covers of any kind. I've asked multiple people and "that's how it's always been" is the usual answer. Sucks, I would love to have it covered.

Good question. I wasn't there when it happened, so other than a couple pictures I didn't get to see. I know if there's rock they have to drill and that's more $$$. Luckily they didn't drill mine.

I think "square enough" is probably all you need.

Not sure who is worse Dominion or Duke. LOLOLOL! Dominion controls Gaston and people bitch about them all the time. Gotta live within the rules.

All these pictures make me feel inspired. We are about to start on our project with our property in Hertford. Got a little place on the water, on the Yeopim River (feeds into the Albemarle Sound) First on the list is the bulkhead, a little over 500 linear feet. Next two years we are going to remove the 40 year old trailer and build a home on it. Similar situation with us, our son is 16 right now, when he goes to college, we are moving. We always see a few Yamahas on the water. If you've never been around that area its still quiet, and it should be for at least the next 10 years. If anyone is looking for property around there check this out. Still cheap land to be had. 409 Riversound Drive, Edenton, NC 27932 | MLS #100449249 | Zillow

What gets me is that Dominion runs Gaston and there are boat houses and roofs on docks. Maybe there's a NC/SC difference...??? I dunno. One person told me that lines of sight is a reason. No roofs or covers means everyone has a better view of the lake. I'd take a cover anyway over being able to see a bit less.
